Well, after 17 years with AT&T (and being laid off 4/29/2011), its nice to be able to finally come out of my shell. Actually, to be quite precise, I have 14 years of continuous employment in IT Ops & IT Services, 22 months (nearly 2 years) b4 that contracting to the same. And another 3 years back 30 years ago, as a Directory Assistance Operator ("Information"). Something very funny happened about a year ago. I was using an internal (employee only) discussion board when someone posted using the my motion GIF I created & use on this board. I contacted the person and told him I knew where he got it. He was surprised that it was actually a fellow employee. I guess he never for a second expected to get caught. We both had a good laugh out of it.& I told him I was actually flattered. Joe (site admin) & Larry (Sprint aficionado) both know my real identity. When I 1st joined this board, (back in version 1 of this site in 1997???) I was new to discussion boards in general & was reluctant to use anything more than a legal alias I used to use as a bill collector. Then, seeing as I was both complimentary and critical of ATT, I didn't want to be tracked. But now I really don't mind. So I'd like to re-introduce myself. My name is Bart, last name Schuck. You can find my profile on Facebook (I think it is visible to anyone). I also maintain a blog (Reflections) and have started using Google's Picasa site (Picasa Web Albums - Bart Schuck). Recently, I have been very active on ATT's Facebook page in anticipation of the Samsung Infuse. Everyone there is about to behead ATT for the perceived delays in getting that out. Anyway, hello. I will continue using the same user acct (KevinJames) but just thought it would be nice to finally deal with you all on level playing ground.
Well hello and very nice to meet the real you. I did think about stealing your animated gif a few times . Well, I am about to behead at&t (and Motorola) for saying the 4.1.8.3 update is out and then pulling it off the Moto site. :crying:
Charlyee: I really don't have any inside info on the phones but I found this by accident. The interesting thing about the private wireless network they have setup for testing equipment. It was a very interesting video. I was looking forward to more videos like it but I wonder if some VP put the clamps on it.
Hey good to see our former moderator back! Bart and I go back a long way here on WA. We were the first two mods appointed by Joe back when phones were bricks and were only good for making/receiving calls. Hey Bart remember when we had our Yahoo groups? You for the Panasonic Allure and me for the Kyocera 2255? Do Yahoo groups even exist today??
Larry: Wow I had nearly completely forgotten about those groups, but yes, now I do remember. Well, Larry, to tell you the truth I am so displeased with AT&T's postponement of the Samsung Infuse and/or Galaxy S2, I went to Sprint's website and started the order process on the Epic. However, I started reading the specs on the Epic and was a bit disappointed. Then I checked for coverage near my home and realized it was not even rated for 3G. So I am back to waiting. I went to T-Mobile's website but was likewise disappointed. So while I am no longer ATT loyal, quite truthfully, it seems to be the best solution for me. (Verizon is just way too expensive.) I've been up & down the coast with ATT and while there are blank spots, for the most part it worked from SF area all the way to Bandon Oregon (pictures of Bandon posted here: (Picasa Web Albums - Bart Schuck) After i get my 1st Android phone, I'll probably disappear into the woodwork again. I'm just eager to find my next phone. I want the Samsung Galaxy S2, but may just end up settling on the Infuse. Truthfully, the biggest selling point for the Infuse (the 4.5" screen) is actually the reason I am NOT drawn to it. Its just too honkin' big.) But if I can convince myself to hold on, the S2 runs Gingerbread, Touchwiz4, is dual-core and has many other benefits. Well, great to hear from you.
Really? Sprint's entire native network here in CA should be at least 3G. As for the Epic it is a little outdated now. Sprint does have some new handsets coming in the near future but I don't believe there's any with a real keyboard like the Epic and EVO Shift. The HTC Arrive (Windows Mobile phone) is fairly new and that's the one I might get because it has a real nice keyboard.
Very interesting video, thanks for sharing. Btw, at&t finally released the 1.8.3 update this morning; much better upload speeds and ping.
Bart - Sorry to hear about the layoff. It was a good run at a good company and I'm sure there are good things ahead for you. That is a good story about your GIF. Gotta say :thumbsdow -- Don't be a stranger around the forums We could use some 'old blood' around here.
