OK, so wanted to get other opinions on HD cable box/services. My picture will randomly and sometimes often be distorted. The only way I can think to describe it is pixelation. I was at my parents house (who have the same service and cable box) and they were complaining about the same thing. So my question is this, does everyone out there experience this with their cable box/company? I find it very frustrating that I pay so much per month for a service that is not adequate and the only other option is satellite. The cable company has such a monopoly as it is the only option when it comes to cable (I am not a big fan of satellite). So let me know if anyone else is having issues like this.

    Thanks,
    aje

Yes. It happens where I live too. I have Time Warner Cable. For the most part, they are fine. When signal levels to the digital box aren't what they're supposed to be, you will see pixelizing, as you've experienced. You might want to have your cable company technicians check it out. It's your money so make them fix it. Good luck!

I have a similar problem with m cable. The picture is distorted or it freezes but within a second or two it is fine. The problem happens infrequently but usually the sound is affected also. I agree it is very frustrating.

Comcast is the cable company up here.

I really am glad that I am with a small local company I dont know what I would do if I had to go to else where. I pay $36/mo with 6mb cable internet and premium channel tv so that is why I cant complain.

Well when my family and I had Comcast, we decided to upgrade to digital cable. The person came out, hooked the box up to our TV, and everything was working until the box started pixelating and then freezing. We also had a lot of trouble with other channels having snow on them. Comcast came out and checked all of the connections and looked outside and they said everything was fine. Needless to say, we returned the box and switched to Dish Network and Embarq.

We now have been happy Dish Network subscribers since June of 2006. We have our same local phone service (Sprint now Embarq) since we moved into our house in February of 1995.

    Our package is as follows:

    • Dish Network America's Top 250 with HBO
    • Unlimited Local and Unlimited Long Distance with the popular calling features
    • Embarq DSL 10 Mbps down/896 Kbps up internet package

All together we pay approximately $190/month with about $25 in taxes. If we still had Comcast, we would be paying at least $15 to $20 more per month.

Your problem sounds like low signal strength. I used to have issues like that, because my cable is split 7 ways in my house (all the TV's, phone, modem), but after I put an amp on the line it's fine. You get the exact same problem with OTA digital TV if your signal is to weak.

Yes, it does seem like a lot. But this amount is with a $5/month service credit for Dish (since we also subscribe to their DSL and phone service) and a $10/month service credit for the DSL. I just did a quick price comparison for Comcast, and we would be paying approximately $25-30 more per month with taxes than we are currently paying with Embarq.

Lol. Yep. When I move out of the house and get my own apartment, I will most likely use a cell phone instead of having a landline and a cell phone provided that I get a good signal with my cell phone.
