I am very confused. I have no sprint service in my house, for the longest time it has always roamed on Alltel 800mhz.. In litchfield country, CT, verizon has always had a 1900mhz pcs license while alltel had the 800. Now, however, i always roam on verizon, alltel is nowhere to be found, and verizon is replacing all of their 1900 equiptment with 800 equiptment. Connecticut keeps all of its information about cell towers and whatnot on a government website. It says for the tower nearest my house, "remove 9 alltel antennas, remove 12 verizon pcs antennas, add 6 verizon pcs antennas and 6 verizon cellular antennas. All of the other areas around me where verizon had antennas also say remove pcs, add cellular antennas. So clearly verizon has somehow gotten the 800 mhz license from alltel? How is this possible when the merger hasnt even gone through yet??? This all just may cause me to switch to verizon someday since if they're putting 800mhz up all over the place now they are going to beat the crap out of sprint as far as coverage goes.
No. The FCC has not made a final determination on the deal and even when they do it will still be a while before the merger becomes final.
I have heard all kinds of news flying around, however it is still not made public. Maybe day after tomorrow there will be some improvement of this issue.
Verizon bought the Litchfield County CT market from Alltel, late last year. It was unrelated to the (pending) total Alltel purchase, this year.
Wirelessly posted (Opera Mini on Alltel HTC 6800: Opera/9.50 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.1.11355/786; U; en)) Yes Verizon owns that market now, they usually don't allow roaming on their networks for carriers that have licenses to cover that market. Which is why many smaller carriers oppose the Alltel merger.
Well, VZW is going to dominate the litchfield hills. Alltel was 800, but they didnt have very many towers. Sprint is 1900, and has a lot of towers all over the place(considering how rural it is) so they always had better coverage than anyone. VZW just started adding pcs here last year, they had almost the same amount of sites as sprint, so coverage was between the two was almost the same, sprint was a lil better. But now vzw is gonna be tops because they're gonna have 800 on a good number of sites. They have already switched most of them out.
