I am on the Verizon network and I have a LG 8100 phone. I get a lot of dropped calls. I have done *228 with option 1 & 2 but no luck. I travel in rural areas and when I go from Ext. network and back to Verizon network or vista versa, I get dropped. Very fustrated at the least. I talked to CS and they say it is the area I am in. This has been going on for more then a year, surely then could fix there end if this is the problem. My wife has the same phone model and problem also. Will a different phone hep and which model? Any ideas or just live with it?
part of it is where you live, but if you were to get a phone that had a little better reception, you could probably keep the phone on Verizon's network. I would try a Motorola phone, I've noticed they hold on to the signal better than other models. The only other phone brand I've seen hold on to a signal better than Motorola is Nokia, but Verizon doesn't have any Nokia phones out that haven't been manufactured by Pantech, so I would try a Motorola. There may be certain models in the other brands that have a decent signal, but this is just what I have noticed.
I have the Motorola E815 and it is one of Verizon's best as far as reception goes. I also had the LG 8100 and although the reception was OK, it wasn't as good as some of the other LG modes that I have now like the LG enV, and the LG 8300. You may be able to force your LG 8100 to stay in the Extended network while you travel so that you don't drop as many calls. See "Keeping extended network" in this thread. http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/verizon-wireless-users/62812-keeping-extended-network.html
With any carrier when you switch between roaming(Extended Network) and your native network the call will drop. IN some areas, Extended Network coverage doesn't stop exactly where Verizon coverage comes back so your call will continue and your phone switch to Verizon's network once you are off the call, but if you leave the service area of your Extended carrier, then of course the call will drop; it's just that simple. A car antenna may help you- it has made a world difference for me in rural Utah.
To be honest with you before verizon got rid of sprint roaming here i would switch time and time again. Bewtween the two and it dropped very very annoying.
It is annoying but what do you do- I'd rather drop a call and then gain Extended Network service than drop a call and have completely no service. I think dropped calls within a service area are ridiculous, but when you leave one carrier's service area and enter another one I don't mind dropping calls (well....maybe it's because it doesn't happen to me every day ).
Thanks for the great replys. I didn't use to have dropped calls but now I travel in another area and I was thinkig it may have been my phone.
