wrap the water pipes for a 30º night?? How often do you guys get snow Zaph? Tony?

Does a night here and there of cold weather like that ruin the oranges and lemons....or damage them?

I can shed a little light on the subject.

Here in Florida (oranges), if there is a freeze for more than 1-2 hours of 32 degrees or colder, it can damage and/or destroy orange trees....but most of the growers protect their plants and water them before the freeze to form a blanket over them just in case.

And before anyone says anything.....Yes, it freezes and sometimes we even have a frost in Florida (even in SW Florida by the Gulf of Mexico)...which our house is approx. 2.5 miles from the Gulf!

We get measurable snow about once every 20 years. At this elevation, we get snow (as in, snow particles falling mixed with rain) about once every 5 years.

And yes, wrap the water pipes for a sub-30° night, because they are very thin (water regulations, we have a half-inch pipe to our house) and made of fairly thin copper (which conducts heat). Water freezes easily. Actually we lost two sprinkler heads last night, I didn't realise they were leaking slightly, they froze, expanded and busted off the heads. This morning when the sprinklers went off (because I forgot to turn them off), we had two fifteen-foot fountains in our yard. Fortunately it's only a $1.79 part at Testosterone Land (err, Home Depot).

Last night the low, as recorded by the weather thingummybob on the house, was 27°F at 0613. I walked the dog at 0630. Jeezus was I cold.

We've had two days of snow in the last two weeks and it's supposed to get down to 15°F tonight or tomorrow night. I love Kansas... it can be 110°F and four months later it can be 15°F... talk about extremes.

We have a lot of older people at ours.....so according to my class and my textbook, there TST must be low.....usually.

The last time it was 27°F in SW Florida, was this past January about 1-2 weeks after my birthday.

27°F in SW Florida! WTF? That is insane, Gamer, how did people react to that? I'm sure a lot of them don't even have heavy winter coats.

I just wear a pair of jeans and a heavy jacket.

People that come to Florida for the first time that except it to be warm in the winter are shocked most of the time.

People at my campus were wearing long pants and long sleeve shirts and light jackets last week since it was 59 in the morning.

I was wearing a pair of shorts and a t-shirt since the temperature that day was 76 by noon.
