As Bill Radio and a few others know quite well, there is a HUGE dead zone/low reception quality in the area surrounding Lowry, Alameda, Fairmont Cemetery and Quebec Street in the area just east of Cherry Creek. Lo and behold, I received a notice from my neighborhood association that Verizon is going to start construction in May of a new cell tower in the Watson's Grave Stone property, across from Fairmont Cemetery, SW corner of Alameda and Quebec and that our association voted in favor of the VZ site. I am pumped as this will totally improve the low signal strength that I've been lobbying VZ for the past two years. Cool eh? :highclap:  :cheers2:
This is indeed good news. The Watson property is the ONLY commercial land in the area, so they might have been a tough negotiator. My wife drives through this intersection every weekday. No more DEAD zone at the cemetary!
:uppoint: :rotfl: I am sooo glad I just swallowed my coffee before reading that! Glad to hear coverage is improving in your area.
Do you mean the Dead are NOT DEAD Anymore at the Cemetery? WHOOOOOOOOOOAAAAH they Have Risennnn. Who's the Exorcist? This Great News Indeed but Scary. A Cemetery is a ZONE for the DEAD.
Climber: Will this site need to go thorugh a local government planning board? If so, don't forget to show up and voice your support. As a planner, I attend lots of hearing where someone will say "lots of people support the project" but no one else shows up to voice the support. The result: The only comments heard are from those who would have the project defeated. Congrats on a good first (and perhaps last) step in getting the dead zone made undead.
Yep exactly! I attended a hearing in Laguna Niguel late last year and even though there were people who supported the antenna the only people who actually showed up (besides me) were trying to shoot it down. The project ended up getting approval and they did get one written letter in support as well. But like you said the only people who go out of their way to show up at these meetings are the NIMBY's. The people who support end up forgeting about the meeting or just can't get motivated enough to do it I guess.
To my knowledge the permits and approval have gone through the local gov't channels. The site is deemed to be begin construction next month. I'll take a close up look in the next few days to see if any equipment or materials have arrived.
We Denverites are all about things to do in Denver when you're dead. Making phone calls....from the grave.
The cell tower arrived a few weeks ago and the signal strength and quality of transmission are excellent! Verizon built a 38ft tower at the old Watson's stone/monument grounds across from the Cemetery not far from my house on the corner of Alameda and Quebec. It has no cell fins on it at all! It looks like a dark adobe smokestack that does not have all the cell 'accessories' built on the top of it. The signal strength at my house is full bars and downstairs in my office, I also have excellent transmission quality. This has been a two plus year's work in progress and after initially talking to VZ's tech and construction dept's, they got on the ball and delivered a first rate tower! OK, it took two years but now the reception here and in Lowry and in the area that had huge dead spots is fixed! Double thumbs up VZ!
I didn't drive through the area often, but now that it's close to my son's school and my wife's work, I am using it a lot more! It's one of those spots where a whole bunch of new homes were built and service gradually deteriorated. It's a pretty hefty pole because there is both 850 and 1900 MHz antennas mounted on it. You should also appreciate the nice generator beside the equipment house. If power or phone service goes out in your neighborhood, it should keep chugging along. The power goes out often at our office, about a mile away, but our Verizon site has never failed due to a power outage. They have no generator, but must have a hefty "bank" of batteries. Another fun analogy, due to the fact that it is intalled on the roof of US Bank! Other related Denver installations include 3 new sites in Elizabeth.
