    Hi
I was just wondering if verizon was going to start using gsm anytime soon. I know cingular is starting it in the nyc area. I live in nj very close to nyc and heard cingular worked well in south jersey but not as well in northern nj. I was wondering if with the gsm their service would be better. currenlty i have verizon and am happy with the service but would change for the gsm service with cingular if it comparable to verizon's service.
    thanks all

Verizon won't be switching to GSM.

Cingular is TDMA in central/ south jersey and use AT&T TDMA system in north jersey and NYC. Also, they use Voicestream's GSM system in NYC/NJ and south Jersey.

he's right verizon will NOT be changing to gsm. i think that cingular though needs more time to update and build out this gsm service. every house i go into my gsm phone drops the signal like a bad habit. my tdma phone holds on strong no matter where i go.

GSM services in NYC/NJ are operated by Voicestream.
