As of today (11/1) Cingular GSM is working along the shore in Ocean county (NJ). In the past my phone (Nokia 6340i) remained in TDMA mode till I was north of the Arts Center on the Parkway. I haven't had a chance to see how far west (Rt. 70) GSM extends.
The red dots and blue dots are towers that have been unbarred during October. They will unbarr the rest of NJ in the next few days.
Where the heck did you get a map like that from? Anything like that for DE? God I am so fed up with Verizon, I wish Cingular was running 800 GSM...that'd be unbeatable, but I am too leery of a GSM 1900 camping system.
Monmouth has both 850Mhz and 1900Mhz. In fact, all of central and south Jersey has both bands. After Cingular realized that it was a mistake to camp only at 1900 and handover to 850 when in a call, they decided to let people camp at 850Mhz so they are enabling control channels at 850Mhz in all markets where they have 850Mhz licenses. Actually, in markets where they have both bands, users can camp on either 1900 or 850 whichever your phone picks and in many markets you can roam on either T-Mobile or AT&T GSM at 1900Mhz. Airbus, I got the map at HoFo.
wait so is union county about to camp at 850 and to utilize the 850 band ? i thought that was more south though. even though we are considered central jersey.
Union is considered North NJ (part of the NYC market), so there will be 1900Mhz only. Unfortunately, the 800Mhz side belongs to AT&T.
