Cingular has recently launched GSM in my area. Since that time I am getting less signal than usual on my 6340i. Several Cingular reps have told me it was because the TDAM network is being slowly taken down as GSM coverage expands. When the phone locks onto a GSM signal, its much better than TDMA, even several years ago. My question is, can I receive GSM ONLY on the 6340i and what must be done to get the phone to do this? Thanks much

It may be because in your area, your 6340i is programmed to be TDMA preferred since it is a TDMA only market, until now. Apparently this is an over-the-air (OTA) only programming that Cingular sends out. You can try calling customer service and ask them if they can program your phone for GSM preferred. In a GSM market, a GSM preferred phone will lock onto a GSM signal if there is any.
