Does anybody have an update on what GSM coverage in Vermont it like. I am trying to pick a new cellular company and am particularly interested in coverage in and around Stowe, VT. How has the RCC rollout progressed around there and what is accessible for Cingular, ATTWS or T-Mobile users? Many thanks!
I have a similar question. Unicel has GSM service, and I am a ATTWS customer. I should be able to roam on the Unicel network, but it won't allow me to. I have a T616. It says I am forbidden. I was wondering if there was any way to bypass that issue. And, is it ATT's fault or Unicel's that my phone won't register with their system?
You are better off looking on Howard Forums (www.howardforums.com)... there is one user Vermontcellboy who may be able to help you, he seems to be pretty up on what is going on in Vermont with Unicel. There is no separate Unicel Forum but he frequents the US Cellular and Verizon forums. -way
I asked ATT CS online chat and they say they do not have a roaming aggremment with that company in that area... this is why you have the problem...
Hi! I'm the Vermontcellboy you mentioned, and I feel really famous. I occassionally search for Vermont threads. I've been deprived of my GSM Test Equipment, but as per the last experiences that have been reported, There is Unicel GSM in Stowe, presumably atop Mount Mansfield, giving you a few usable bars at the Pie in the Sky restaurant. Unicel's GSM sites are fairly weak, and once you leave Stowe headed towards Morrisville, it's TDMA and AMPS territory. If you head towards the highway, it's probably decent GSM, but not great, as even my Sprint has difficult getting to I-89. The best coverage in Vermont is to be had by Unicel and TDMA, but Verizon with Analog could also do you just as good, hopping onto Analog once your on Unicel's towers.
Unfortunately, Verizon is no good anymore in itd Extended Analog Area. T-Mobile and Cingular in my experience work will with Unicel in Vt
Wow, a thread from the vault! Are you saying the roaming agreement between Verizon and Unicel was discontinued? I Or is Unicel starting to shut down some of its analog cells?
I do not really know, if the agreement was discontinued: just that for many years (at least 7) with Verizon we had had a great coverage in Barton, VT analog, as well as digital. Starting in 2006 it went worse with many dropped calls and since July - nothing. They do not give you any explanation. Try to blame it to the phone, but at one point we had 4 different Verizon phones there - only cingular and T-mobile worked. Neighbors with Verizon are in the same situation. Meanwhile, Verizon let me go without ETF - so I think they know that something changed there. nbl
This was not Verizon's fault. Unicel shut down analog on the tower near you. Unicel is your best solution.
We switched to T-mobile (Barton is our 2nd home) and had a wonderful connection. The peace of 93N from Franconia Notch through 91N to Exit 25th have intermittent loss of signal (Verizon did not have a signal there at all). So far we are very pleased with T-Mobile (Cingular phone worked there too). nbl
While Cingular will roam on Unicel in VT, I would not recommend it if you live in an area only covered by Unicel and roaming on them 100% because Cingular will discontinue your service.
