I've been invited to GrandCentral and as part of that I've gotten a few extra invites. I'll give an invite to the first five people that private message me, good luck.
GrandCentral: The New Way to Use Your Phones It's a unified place to always get your calls. It can call you at up to three different places e.g. cellphone, home, office, etc. Recently bought by google.
Not telling, those who are interested know what it is, it's a new Google Service. That cuts it down to people that are interested as of right now instead of just attracting new people.
Now isn't this just plain silly! Why didn't you just tell him NOYFB! Sheesh! It's not some elite special "club." If you want an invitation to use the service all you have to do is ask. Of course nKrypteD1 wants to be elitist about it for reasons I don't understand. If people ask questions you answer them unless it's unlawful or if you don't have a clue what the answer is. You don't play like it's your own privileged service that you're not letting anyone in on.
There is NO Reason for you to have said that Telekom, Try to keep your posts courteous and on subject. nKrypte is making a special offer & that should be respected.
I already have a unified place to get all my calls. Its called my cell phone. I haven't had a landline in years. -Jay
Hard as it is to believe in this day and age some people have more than one number! For them it's a good solution. As always YMMV. (And I haven't had anything other than mobile service for over five years as well.)
He stated he had some additional Invites and was offering them, to me that is an Offer. I do not know if anyone can get this, thru the web site alone, but it seems to be the point he was offering something to people.
The point was this was discussed a few weeks ago, I've beta tested for google before and as always they offer a very limited number of invites for new betas once you're in. In this case I was given 10 invitations I can give out, of those I've given a few to several friends, there are 5 invitations left I can give out, I'm being "elitist" because to advertise it would mean mostly that people will glance and pm vs. someone who already knows what Grandcentral is who is wanting to try it out. Telekom if you have an issue with my way of thinking about it then you really should take it up with me in private, I have various forms of private communication open to where hostility should not surface on the open forum, but simply put my intent isn't elitist it's that quite simply there are a very limited # of invites available and I don't forsee google giving any additional ones in the near future. Sorry if it comes off as something else.
I have been using GrandCentral for several months, now, and I love it! The GrandCentral service is extremely flexible, so there are many ways to use it. I use their voicemail features as a very useful type of voicemail that is far better than my regular wireless-provider voicemail. I forward several lines to my GrandCentral number. When there is voicemail in my GrandCentral voicemail box, the service sends me an email letting me know the number (or the name of the person if that number is in my contact list) of the phone that called. I can click on a link in that email, to listen to my voicemail. If I am away from my computer, I can retrieve that voicemail via their WAP site, or by calling in the traditional way. (I get those emails on my Blackberry, where I can click on a link in that email to hear my message.) If several voicemails "pile up" in your mailbox, you can pick the ones that you want to listen to first. You can do that at your PC or using their WAP site. It's nice to be able to pick the voicemail that you want to hear, without having to listen to all of them one-by-one, until you get to that important one. You can also archive those voicemails, so you later can go back and refer to them. With GrandCentral you can assign different greetings for various callers and groups. If you get telemarketing (or other unwanted) calls from a specific number, you can even assign that annoying number to hear the out-of-service tone and "this number out of service" message when it calls. The service is currently free. I am sure that I will be willing to pay for it if and when they start charging for it. I highly recommend that you give it a trial if you think it might work for you.
I'm pretty sure that in the next few months as it progresses out of beta it will become a pay service, that or all the premium extra's that we enjoy in the beta will turn from being free to pay per use (like the call me now button for $3.) I've had little oppertunity to really play with it yet as for the next week or so I'm still on dialup from my move, it's also slightly sad that they don't offer numbers local to me (alaska) but I'm sure that'll be resolved in the next 2 or 3 years. Responded, 4 invitations left.
This is what Apple and AT&T call "Visual Voicemail" which they also said it's so innovative in their iPhone. Now, I realize this is off-topic, I just noticed something rather annoying about GrandCentral. They block DTMF tones from getting across. If you have any automated call-back service that expects you to enter digits, it won't work. For instance, some long-distance schemes will call back your number and then ask you to enter a PIN or your destination number. If you have any of those call your GrandCentral number, it won't work because GrandCentral blocks the DTMF tones from going through. They started doing this a few months ago and as a result, I can't verify my GC number with VoipBuster for Caller ID display.
I have to say I really like the press 3 to listen in on voicemail. That's gonna be invaluable over time. FYI, 2 invitations left, pm me if you want them, first come first served.
Shawn, I will give it a try. I sent you an invitation request, and I would appreciate one if you have any left. Thanks.
If you read the frequently asked questions they actually say you should contact support to tell them the area code in which you'd like a local number should it not be available. Also, if you get a number now and there's nothing available for you specifically once something becomes available they'll switch you. Done and done, that's my 10, had a friend ask for the other invite last night on IM so, hopefully those of you on the forums whom I've invited will have invites to pass around as well.
That's right. If there is no local number for you, at least you should sign up with the nearest number to you. That way, once a number becomes available to you, you can change your number. That's what I did and it took less than 2 minutes to change my number via their chat room.
Wonder how long before they have Alaska numbers, I'd guess about the same time vonage becomes available up here.
