First, I'm a noobie and I hope I'm on the right forum. If not, please accept my apologies.

Second, Need a little help here. I loaded a couple of skins into my Alltel V3M. All was well till suddenly the screen went black, all except the very top where the signal strength and battery charge are shown. If I close the phone, I see the wallpaper on the cover screen but when I open it, nothing! I have searched and searched and find nothing except to use motokit. I found motokit and downloaded it but there is no help pages or documentation I can find to use it plus, it is written in some foreign language!

The phone works, I can press the voice activated button and call out of my phone book and I can dial out, I just have a black screen! When I power off and on, the Shutdown and Startup screens appear along with their associated sounds.

    Can anyone help? Please???

:) don't worry. i can help! i had the same problem. first you need pitpim. once you have your device correctly configured with bitpim. than save a skin that you have that worked (on alltel v3m save the scarlet one) and than delete all of the files in the skin that was causing you problems and put all of the files that you saved (scarlet.dat, scarlet.ski, etc...) into the folder that was causing the problem. restart your phone!!!

13 years old and keepin up with you guys (k1m flashed to alltel, everything working, vcast, mms, gin!!!)

In my experience with that, just use BitPim to delete the entire skin folder that is giving you troubles. Upon restart of your phone, your phone will restart with with the skin located in the first position (alphabetically)

I got bitpim 0.9.13. It won't autodetect so I did manual. It does not offer any phones when Alltel, Motorola is selected. I guess I will try the same procedure using P2k.

BitPim WONT auto detect your phone. For phone type, select v3cm. For comm port, click Browse. Then select Motorola USB Modem under the "available ports". Then go into the file system and delete the folder that way. P2K commander will never delete the empty folder. You MUST use BitPim if u want to solve this.

Make sure u are running BitPim on its own. Unplug phone and plug back in before starting bitpim.

When in bitpim ,after setting up phone type and comm port, go to View and check on view file syste,. Then in the left window pane, select File System

You da man! Followed your instructions to the letter and it worked like a charm! Thanks! Hallelujah, I can see again! Now, should I forget the skins, wallpaper, etc? Or chalk it up to experience and keep your tutorial handy for the future and go play with my phone some more?

MOST everything can be reversed. What did u do that messed up your skins? Are u sure u were installing a skin for the ALLTEL v3c or v3m? Which skin and where did u get it from. I have about 11 skins and have zero problems.

Those are absolutely the correct skins for Alltel v3c and v3m phones. Can u tell me how and which folders u put them in? And which program you used?

Example Copper: Using P2k commander I created folder named Copper under a>mobile>skins. I clicked Re Read to refresh and display the Copper folder. I opened the Copper folder in the left pane. I navigated to the unzipped Copper skins folder in the right pane and copied the contents to the Copper folder I created. I then right clicked on the left pane and selected Re Start Phone. On the phone, I then navigated to the Settings, Personalize, Skins and selected Copper as my skin. Copper also appeared as my wallpaper. I did the same with Moto II except when I selected Moto II as a skin, the Copper wallpaper remained displayed. I then copied the Plasma.jpg file to my phone under Motorola, Shared, Picture and restarted my phone. With Moto II still selected as my skin, I navigated to Wallpaper and selected Plasma and it displayed as wallpaper correctly. When I turned my phone off a few minutes later and turned it back on, the screen was black except for a small band across the top displaying the phone status, signal strength, digital, roaming, a couple of icons I don't know what they mean and battery strength. When I closed the phone, the small screen displayed the Plasma wallpaper, time, etc as normal. When I would open it, it would be black. If I pressed the button on the right for voice commands, it would display correctly on the screen. That was the only feature that would display. I deleted the contents of all the skin folders except Moto, Scarlet and Techno as well as the Plasma.jpg file from Motorola, Shared, Picture. The screen display remained black but when the phone was closed, the small screen wallpaper was white. Then I followed your instructions to delete the folders with BitPim and all is back to normal now. Where did I go wrong?

Unless there is a problem with the MotoII skin...

Also, you do know that if u are using a skin that DOESNT contain its own set of icons, the phone will look to the skin in the FIRST spot (listed alphabteically). Normally, this is Moto. But if u add something liek Copper, that then gets placed FIRST, so any skin WITHOUT icons will look to Copper and try and use those icons. IF there are icons on that skin, then u are probably okay. BUT if THAT skin doesnt contain any, the phone gets all messed up. What I did was I copied the Moto skin, and renamed everything to "A Moto". That way, all future skins will come after it...so skins without icons will refernce the standard moto icons. And skins with them act normally. This might be your problem. I can upload my renamed moto skin if u would like it...

That would be really nice, that way I could see how to do it properly. Thanks much.

Here u go. For future reference, it is as simple as renaming each file.... such as Moto.ski to A Moto.ski, and Moto7 to A Moto7... Let me know if this helps your MotoII situation

Thanks! I created a P2k batch file to create the directory and upload the files. The batch file worked great as did your A Moto files. I wonder if you might look at my batch file and see if I did it correctly. Thanks again!

I noticed one problem. If u look at the p2k script u have done...

    cp A Moto14.dat
    to/a/mobile/skins/A Moto/A Moto14.dat

    cp A Moto14.dat
    to/a/mobile/skins/A Moto/A Moto15.dat

    cp A Moto14.dat
    to/a/mobile/skins/A Moto/A Moto16.dat

You need to change them to match...the numbers in bold dont match the 15.day and 16.dat respectively.

I dont use the auto-scripts myself, since it hangs more often that not, so i prefer just copying them 3 at a time manually. But it looks okay otherwise.
