Got my 710 from VZW with the new every two.. Heres what i like and dont like from what i have seen...

I do like the ringtones... However I was disappointed that I did not see a thing for continuous backlighting on the screen... I also was able to stand my 270c to get maximum reception when using the speaker phone but cant seem to do that at this time... Good sounding speaker phone.. as good as the 270 i think... I cant get continuous lighting too if i wanted to keep the lid closed and display the time... are all flips like that or not... Like the additional spaces for the recent call list...

Have not tried bluetooth yet.. but speaker in car does fine...

So I've had my 710 for about 2 weeks now and here are my thoughts...

Signal - Everywhere i go i don't think i had to pull up the att even once and i haven't seen no signal at all.

Earpiece - could be louder i'm a little disapointed about that, but it's bearable.

Speakerphone - Great Feature, i have got very few complaits about people not hearing me

Bluetooth - not having the ability for file transferring is disapointing but the wireless headset feature is amasing, nice and clear and very convient

Voicedial - this is like no other phone i've used, no training required and picks up any voice, my friends were playin with this for a while. This feature is even better with a wireless headset.

Camera & Video Camera - outdoors its just fine all i would want out of a phone. Unfortunally most of the pictures you want to take when you normally don't have a camera are indoors :( oh well

battery life - for all the features this phone has i was expecting a lot less. i recharge my phone every three days and thats with the bluetooth on.

Ringtones, Mp3's, transflash - This is the best and most annoying part of this phone  I get a lot of erroring mp3's i usually takes me about 3 trys recopying a file on the tf card for it either to appear or to be able to transferring it with out it skipping when i play it on the phone. Also, sometimes when i try to copy the mp3 from the card to the mem of the phone, it says unable to copy or unable to move, thats anoying too. its very glitch with that. but once you play around with it and transfer it the phones memory its swweet :browani: nothing like free ringers with full real mp3. its worth the effort. and did i meantion free. GET IT NOW THAT VERIZON :lmao:

I tried to transferrer pics but that has been unsucessful i think it has to be the right resolution in order to open it.

So if i had to pick again, i would still pick the 710 no question. can't wait till people start making mods. :)

    another problem with 710

 ANother problem with the 710.. got the phone charged in car... made calls.. battery went down to zero put charger in cannot use phone .. it says with an exclamation point charging battery... its done this for an hour

Says in instruction manual full phone functionality with 1 bar.. well it says one bar and still says charging battery...

WIth my old 270 I use to make calls let the battery go to zero and plug it in the charger and continue to make calls without a hitch....

I have a feeling i am bringing back my 710....

You may need to take out the battery to reset the phone. Take the battery out and put it back in. This should work. It happens with most phones I have had.

You have to give it some time. Just because the phone isn't great when you take it out of the box for the first five minutes isn't a good reason. You need to learn how to work the phone. All phone have little quirks that you need to learn how to fix. You will figure out how to work the phone to its full capacity and it will be great mine is perfect.

I used to share this opinion but I no longer do. I wouldn't give it any time if you're not completely happy with it. If VZW will exchange it, what do you have to lose?

i agree with cash... from what I seen the signal is great :) :) :) even when phone is horrizontal But some people still cant hear me when I am on speakerphone mode... that is a good feature witht the phone.. although 270 is not bad either.. i have a feeling the signal on the 710 is really tight... but i dont know i will give it 5 more days to see if i am happy about it..

the only tri mode phones with speaker are audiovox 8900 and lg 7135 that i know of

I love the phone, The signal is exceptional in Houston and once you use the cordless bluetooth headsetwith the voice dial you will never go back.

eh im already experiencing bugs with this phone and it is starting to scare me. Reminds me of the T720. Just a few min ago i was talking to my friend, battery went low so i plugged it into the charger, kept talking, my girlfriend called, switched over, talked to her for a min, then i tried to switch back over to my friend, dont know if he hung up or not.. not a big deal. i end the call and try to call him back it just sits there, does not dial does not do anything. I took it off the charger walked around my house made sure I had a good signal. I try calling other numbers, my voice mail, nothing. now im mad.... tried calling my phone from my house phone, nothing. i tried turning the phone off, back on, nothing. tried taking the battery out, nothing. finally i decided to put it back on the charger and now it worked. weird. So i guess it has a bug to do with the charger. I'm also getting tired of my phone freezing and going back to the main screen. Stupid motorolas why didn't i learn after the T720

...this happened to me once, but it was a network problem. you might want to call verizon and see if ur area was down for a while, and it could have just been that, and oddly enough it came back on when u put it on the charger.

Anyone know if you can check a text message with the phone flipped shut, as you can do with missed calls?

I just got the phone. Initial charge going on now. One complaint already is the cover for the transflash card. It seems flimsy and like it wont stay down. Also, I cant tell if there is one of those packaging films over the dial keys - I am afraid to pick at the corners for fear of daming the phone :)

    check text message time display...

No i dont beleive so that you can check a text message with the clamshell shut ... and you cant even check the time without pushing a button since the backlight goes off after so long... i may go to the v60s and see if that would work better for me...... I heard that was a pretty good phone... Motorola says you cant either keep the time displayed when not in use... I too noticed earpiece was soft also even at the highest setting...

im having trouble with the charging too....i havent been able to use my phone for three days now  the first day i started to charge it like normal and after like 4hrs on the charger i noticed the screen was blinking i took it off the charger and tried to turn it on and it came on for a sec. and turned right back off!! i was like hmm...maybe it wasnt hooked up right...well after taking it off the charger again it wouldnt even turn on....and still did the flashing thing while plugged in...i cant even turn it on while its plugged in...it just flashes...took it to radio shack and they said they just took out the batt. and it was charging fine(i never saw it charging just assumed it needed the batt. reset or whatever) got back home an hour away and plug it in.....nothing just the flashing....took the batt. out and let it sit for 12hrs or so...plugged it in and still just flashes...need to take it back to RS but thats so far away*sigh*

I'm surprised by the earpiece complaints. I use mine at either 3 or 4. Anything beyond that is too loud.

My .02 on pros and cons

Pros: Excellent screen. Nice menu once you get used to it. Great speakerphone. Good built in ringtones. Ringtones VERY loud, if desired. Pretty good outdoor pics (but don't toss your dig camera). Separate, and customizeable ring volume choices without going into menus (can set different ring tones, and volumes for loud and soft settings) Excellent reception. Extensive voice command features. Love the Bluetooth.

Cons: I don't like the separate battery and cover. Wish they would have made the battery to just snap in and match the back of the phone like most others. A little big, although most of my calls will be with wireless headset, so the phone will not need to be opened all the time (I like the style and size of my wifes A680 more, although hers doesn't have all the features of the 710). Side buttons are very small and somewhat hard to operate for me. I sometimes hit the speaker button when trying to adjust volume.

As you can see, my cons are small gripes more than real problems. Overall, I really like this phone and can't wait for my Jabra 250!!

The earpiece volume is low just like all the Motorola phones that have color screens and camera's. It can be hacked on the GSM models. But if you came from a v60c/i or even the StarTAC 7760/7868W - the volume is a joke. So it depends on what previous phone you had since your previous phone may have a lower volume than the previous Motorola's.

Well, I'm coming from an old LG510. But I had Nextel before that. Doesn't really matter. Cause above 4, it's too loud for my ear. Oh well, maybe some guys have listened to a little too much hard rock with headphones :D Some of the headsets like the Jabra 250 are supposed to have very good volume. Might wanna try that.

Anyway, I forgot one "con" that I would really like to see on upcoming models. I would like to use the speakerphone with the flip closed. I had that with Nextel and really liked it. Take calls and talk on speaker by touching one outside button........

I've had mine for only a few days now (since the 11th), but I'm already very happy with this phone, which replaced a Startac I'd had for years, and which had been dropped one too many times. :)

That said, there's a lot of little (and not-so-little) stuff they could have done better.

    Pro:
The HS820 headset rocks: comfortable, clear, and good volume.
    Beautiful screen.
Good signal (as good as/better than my startac)
Good security defaults (GPS is 911-only, bluetooth is non-discoverable)
Transflash - nice for moving photos to my computer (or wallpaper to the phone) with an SD reader (bought from hellomoto) and the adapter that came with the card.
The size, for me, is "just right", although I'd like a better key spacing.
Earpiece volume seems fine to me, but I usually use the HS820.
The antenna's nice (I'm soo tired of replacing Startac antennas); I leave it down, and still get the good signal mentioned above.

Battery life, for me, has been adequate (more than a day of use) but I'm still playing with features and not settled into a normal usage pattern, so it remains to be seen how long it will last in normal use. I'll probably get the rumored extended-life battery when it shows up.

    Con:
I hate the phone book. Not that it's worse than the Startac's, it's just not what I'd expect from a phone of this caliber (no way to save postal addresses or notes with things like driving directions). The way they store two numbers as separate entries linked by the name (and if you rename one, it doesn't rename the other) is just plain idiotic.

The weird way the keys overlap with each other would appear to make it easy to miss-key. But so far I've only had a problem with the circular menu selection button (I'm always hitting the ring, and not the center, when I try to select something). I have really big fingers though, so most people may not see this, and truth be told it usually works fine.

The Vibrate alert is too soft. I used to use that all the time on my Startac, and on this phone I suspect it's too soft to work unless you carry the phone in a pocket.

The screen goes dark too soon, and turning it back on requires hitting a button, which usually causes something undesirable to happen (a quick tap on the speakerphone button works best, unless you're in camera mode then it's a shutter release).

The pattern on the outside screen is too busy to easily read the icons.

The lack of OBEX support for wireless syncing would be a pain, except that I doubt I'd be happy with the results of syncing the phone book given its problems. I have to doubt the usual conspiracy-theory view that they did this to enhance GIN sales, since the phone has a working transflash card slot (and other work-arounds like mailing things). My suspicion is that this is missing due to paranoia over the recent Symbian phone virus (which tricked users into accepting infected applications via OBEX) or last year's security concerns about Nokia phones and data snarfing, so maybe this will show up eventually once they decide they're not vulnerable (or fix something if they are).

The menus are a bit of a nuisance, but that's fading as I get used to them. It's still too hard to get to the battery-level display if I want more info than the icon is showing. And on that note: my laptop can tell me minutes of use remaining on the battery at current usage, why don't cellphones do this?

The camera seems to be pretty poor under normal lighting (even when
you play with the bright/dark adjustment) and the built-in light is useless as far as I can tell. I've used a 1.3 MP point-and-shoot for work in the past, and had hoped this could take its place, but with no light/flash I don't think the indoor quality will be adequate. The zoom feature is really cool, though.

    Summary:
It's got quirks, and some things are just plain broken. But if your usage doesn't trip over them too badly, it's a very nice phone. Time spent reading other V710 threads on this board would be well spent before buying one.
