I just received my T637 this afternoon and it seems like a great little phone except for two BIG problems.

    1. You can't set the phone to vibrate ONLY.

    2. You have to navigate through 7 "clicks" to turn vibrate on or off.

Does anybody know if I can have the phone vibrate without ringing?

If not I'll be returning the phone for a V600.

    TIA

What happens when you hold down the * key for 3 seconds?

What happens when you hold down the # key for 3 seconds?

I pressed both the * and # keys and nothing happened.

Go to Settings>Sounds & Alerts>Ring Volume and then turn the volume down all the way (using the toggle). Your ringer will now be off and I believe that Vibrating Alert will automatically be turned on. If it's not automatic then go to Settings>Sounds & Alerts>Viibrating Alert and manually select On.

Welcome to the world of eccentic Swedish firmware design, flavoured with a few Japanese elements. As for Item 2, maybe there is a shortcut for this - ? Try asking at the HoFo SE forums if this really annoys you.

    Thanks for the info.

Ok, I got it to vibrate only.

But I need to find a way to create a shortcut and make it a one or two step process to activate it. I'll try HoFo.

If you hear of any ways please post here!

    TIA

I think I've found a shortcut for both items: Go to More>Turn On Silent. This should turn the ringer off as well as activate the vibrating alert simultaneously.

Many thanks to Jacob @ the Smokey Point (Wa. state) Cingular store for helping me with this. Hi Jacob, if you're lurking. :p

For other shortcuts, go to Settings>My Shortcuts. I'm not really sure what you can do inside My Shortcuts but it's worth looking. Damn manual is absolutely silent on any shortcuts.

As a last resort, if people just can't seem to make any headway in deciphering just what-in the-hell SE was thinking when they designed the FW they can always call SE: 866-766-9374. I called about something the other day and spoke with one of the coolest CS reps ever. Very nice & helpful guy. While we were talking I told him that he should check out the WA forums and he pulled up the (WA) SE forum page and this thread in particular. I don't know if he intends to post here (at least not in an "official capacity" as I bet that SE company policy would forbid him posting as an official representative).

is your phone branded? because on my T630 i just press the right softkey for a drop list, turn on silent, bluetooth, phone lock, infrared, etc. etc...
unless your phone is locked, because in that case i imagine that you have the mMode options or something.

Just so everyone knows (I didn't) the softkeys, either right or left, are the ones that are marked "__" and are located directly under the screen.

i just got a T616 and in My Shortcuts i chose edit shortcuts, then scrolled down a loong list of items and checked vibrate alert, this will add vibrate alert to My shortcuts, so then when you goto Myshortcuts you can turn on,off or leave on when silent. the silent mode can be activated/deactivates instantly by holding down the "c" button
