Thanks to all of you who helped me choose Sprint and the 5300. Recieved my phone yesterday and I do agree best damn phone ever. What is the bullseye icon below the signal meter? I'm sure there be more questions coming. PS. If anyone has read Consumer Reports for February.... disregard their findings on Sprint customer service. My activation experience and last couple calls have been a pleasure. My last calls to Cingular on the other hand to cancel service has not. Ken
From the normal screen click left arrow and choose LOCATION, it'll tell you about that little mark. Also, I had trouble knowing what the different icons were. Finally found an answer on the phone itself by going to MENU>PHONE INFO>HELP It'll show you all the icons. Choose one and it'll tell you all about it. The paper manual I got with my phone was a joke, but everything you need is there on the phone. I LOVE my 5300!
If you go to the Sanyo website you can download the REAL manual for the phone. It's much more useful than the one Sprint gives you. - sheureka

sanyo also has live manuals on their site, pretty nifty..it showed me alot about my 4900 (i didnt know it has call screening!)
That icon is called your location meter, it helps your service provider locate you to help send you info. You want to keep that funcation on at all times, it gives a special sig. it's like a homing device.
What happens if theres a line through it,like crossed out, does that mean that that functionality is not available in your area yet?
That means you turned it off. Location services aren't being actively used anywhere except for a handful of areas (such as Delaware County, PA) that are E911-enabled. On a side note, an article in The Phialdelphia Inquirer says a Delaware County official tested E911 and the center pinpointed his location as "outside of Boscov's." Not bad at all. They said they can nail you down to 5 feet of your location, which is good enough for me. It's a shame that so few areas have this phase (Phase II) of E911 running, and that some carriers don't have their network ready yet (Cingular, for one).
