The War between these giants of Communication industry seems never ending. The $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility by Google in May was seen to have been motivated in part by the desire for the company’s extensive patent portfolio. Google, prior to the acquisition of Motorola, seemed to have less number of patents compared to other companies of its age and prominence. It is said that Google has spent a lot of money and effort buying or bidding on patents from older technology companies. The patents involved in the lawsuit are - 5,883,580 (relating to messaging devices), 5,922,047 (relating to control systems for multimedia), 6,425,002 (relates to communication devices), 6,983,370 (relates to the ability to sync), 6,493,673 (relates to interactive services), 7,007,067 (relates to wireless communications systems), 7,383,983 (relates to managing content). A detailed look on the 7 patents filed against Apple is available in Unwiredview and TechCrunch websites.
