I am not sure if Andy wanted me to post this or not but he is getting his Wisdom Teeth pulled tommorow. Just want to say that I hope everything goes well and that you get well soon after they get done doing it. Take care bud.:O
They used a hammer and chisel to get my teeth out :speechles Being Serious When I got mine pulled in 1997 they asked me if I wanted gas or be knocked out. I choose gas, becuase it was a once in a lifetime to see my teeth get crushed and pulled. :browani: Hope you get back to a full recovery soon. :thumb:
YIKES!!! Boy do I remember what this was like. I had all four removed: two out, two impacted. It was 3 days of miserable aching pain. Yes, as a guy, I am a big baby when I don't feel well. I thank my lucky stars this torture-fest was 17 long years ago!! Good luck, Andy, hope you feel better soon!!
I had mine out when I was 18... I had to be lifted on to my (lofted) bed by two football-playing friends of mine, after I had walked into a no-parking sign and had gone to redeem my free-ice-cream-at-the-Whippy-Dip coupon.
They gave me a chioce when they did mine. I could get 2 done, then come in a month later and get the other 2 done -OR- I could get all 4 at once. I chose all at once. Get several bags of frozen peas and keep 2 bags on your face at all times, and keep rotating them back to the freezer when they begin to thaw. If you keep it cold you will greatly reduce the pain & swelling. I remember when mine were done I kept my cheeks cool, and I used very little pain meds. Good Luck! -Jay

Thanks guys. It actually wasn't as bad as I expected. When I got to the doctors this morning we looked over my x-ray again and he said that my lower teeth are completely impacted and *very* close to the nerve, meaning there was a certain risk involved in taking them out. He said that they do not pose a risk at this time and that he would not take them out right now, judging by the risk, but come back in another year and do an x-ray to see if things have stayed the same. I was still put to sleep for my two upper teeth and apparently told the doctor "Don't give me that shi*" when he woke me up and was trying to explain to me how my breath woulnd't be so good the next couple of days and not to kiss all my girlfriends or something like that. My girlfriend who actually took me home told me that I was very concerned whether or not she'd had breakfast this morning(I also told her that I have a wallet and that we should go get her some breakfast), asked her how her days was(it was 9 a.m. in the morning, lol), gave her advice on how to drive, asked her how bad traffic was and told her not to read instructions for my medicine while sitting at a red traffic light and more...apparently I repeated myself over and over again. I don't remember anything. The most hilarious thing, though, was when I was barely waking up, my Mom said that I was trying to reach for my phone in my pocket. When I finally was able to get it out of my pocket was when I was sitting in my Mom's car, I was apparently dialing my girlfriends' number who was supposed to come pick me up but dialed a wrong number and got a different girl on the phone, lol. I usually never dial her number but always use her speed dial...this I don't remember either, lol. Anyways, just thought I should share this with you guys. Thanks again for all your wishes, and especially to Ryan.
Glad to see you survived. . I've never been hospitalized, never had any kind of surgery other than on my teeth. I had all 4 out at once, like walkguru and others. They did it using local anesthesia, so I was awake but totally numb. The surgery wasn't all that bad. When the anesthetic wore off, later that night, I thought I was going to die. Worst pain ever.
Sounds like quite an experience. My mom's cousin is a dentist outside of Cologne and I have all my dental needs taken care of there since I know her quite well personally. Secondly, I have a lot of contact with her daughters (my cousins) so if I have a major problem on a weekend, I can pay them a visit and have their mom take a look. (Going to a German hospital or any doctor's office on the weekend requires a very long wait, most doctors don't even open on the weekends, instead you normally go to the emergency room). I was also told by my dentist 4 years ago that I should have all 4 wisdom teeth in 1 operation (under a full anesthetic). In the end, only 1 was pulled since the other 3 teeth didn't pose a problem. Alles Gute für die Erholung (All the best for your recovery),
Ah, yes Andy, the joys of being under an anisthetic...:browani: As I was waking up from my wisdom-teeth-removal stupor, I think I tried to get up and ended up collapsing to the floor. I felt like I had been wacked by a mallet a few times. :googlyeye I will warn you, though, it is a nightmare when they have to remove impacted teeth. This is where the majority of my pain (and chipmunk cheeks) came from. You staved off even greater torture for another year. Glad you are doing better!!
Wirelessly posted (Palm 700p: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D052; Blazer/4.5) 16;320x320) Sounds like you had fun Andy. I had my wisdom teeth out on July 24th. My teeth hurt for close to a week later since the doctor had to drill my lower left wisdom tooth. Be sure to do your salt rinses religiously like I did. You can ask them for an empty syringe shot like I did (so you can get the debris out of the wounds better than with just the salt water in the glass). I had to take Percoset and Darvoset for a few days afterwards (for 3.5 days later) due to my lower left tooth being drilled out and "worked on" for an extended period. They gave me an IV, but I was still half awake for the entire procedure. I hardly bled at all, which was good according to the doctor. Try to avoid eating hard foods for a few days (I couldn't eat solid foods like steak until 5.5 days later). Andy, if you have any questions, feel free to send me a PM. Good luck with the healing.
I had 2 wisdom teeth extracted on June 22. We had originally planned to do all 4, but my lower third molars are larger than normal (6 cusps instead of the normal 3 or 4) so we just did the right side. I go back in 3 weeks for the left. I wasn't in too much pain. Keeping gauze in my mouth to stop the bleeding was annoying. A few days after the surgery I had an area where a sharp point of bone along the lower left socket poked through my gum and stabbed my tongue every time it moved. It hurt like hell until I went to get my stitches out and the dentist chipped off the sharpest part. It finally healed over the next two weeks.
