Hi there, Newbie here and just had a question about a transition im about to make. Im curently with cingular but should be switching to verizon soon. I decided to go with verizon prepaid (Easypay Plan) service to try them out. I looked at the coverage area and it looks good to me where i live. Ill probably be using phone LG Model#VX3300. Looks like a simple enough phone. Im looking for any tips or suggestion you may have on my transition and well as how signal is with this phone and in my area of Bethlehem, PA Zip#18018, with other locals. Now im new to this CDMA technology of phone, always been with GSM. What other difference can i expect in signal quality. I know verizon phone dont use a sim card. Thank for any suggestion. :)

    Welcome to WA,

just as with GSM, CDMA is dependent on how well Verizon has built out their tower network in your immediate area. CDMA is also different from GSM in that it still relies on analog fallback (AMPS networks) in areas where digital CDMA/EV-DO (data) coverage isn't available.

Have a look at the Northeastern Forum to see what other Verizon users have said above their local coverage. There are several PA users here on WA.

chuikov works in the wireless industry and probably knows the PA market better than anyone else. Send him a PM if you need specific info from him:

Well, you know the basics. Verizon phones, and CDMA phones as a matter of fact, do not use SIM Cards. That will probably be the biggest difference you will notice. Signal wise and sound quality wise it depends on how good/bad the Verizon network is in your area and you need to try that yourself. You have obviously made the right decision in wanting to try VZW out first without a contract to make sure their coverage fits your needs.
I have never owned an LG 3300 but have many experiences with other LG models. Even though reception on these phones is average, I have better luck with Motorla and Nokia phones(in fringe areas, as well as no dropped calls in areas the LG would sometimes drop a call).
    Hope this helps,
    Welcome to the forums!
    Andy

nice, I was worried when you said lg vx3300 becuase that phone is notorious for signal issues. glad its working out and if you make the switch to post pay I would highly reccomend the VX8300 which you can get for just 49.99 and it rules

I just got the v3m but I also strongly considered the new 8300. I like the new adobe flash UI a lot better than the standard red-barred UI that the 8300 has.

I still have 10 days left so I might return my RAZR for the 8300. Moto's are buggy, but I've always had great luck reception wise with them. How is the 8300 in regards to voice quality and data connectivity?

    Thanks. :)

I own that particular phone and while I like the simplicity (and trimode functionality), the phone doesn't do 2 well if you are in a fringe area... my friend's ancient LG VX4500 holds a digital signal better. Besides the fringe areas, the phone is great...If you want simplicity, try the Nokia 2128i (all digital but a gr8 signal getter)

great coverage in PA, welcome to verizon. Welcome to 21st century technology --- CDMA ---. GSM is still trying to in Europe to get WCDMA working as well CDMA EV/DO.

Well guys im thinking of cancelling my number with verizon. Ive been getting all type of call and txt messages from wrong#. I tell them they have a wrong# but they keep calling. The phone# the local verizon store gave me was last disconnected 2 months ago but they just keep coming. I did call verizon yesterday and ask them to change my phone# and the rep did but told me if it keep happening that i cant change it again. There was no fee due to the circumstance but today even though ive gave my new# to only 1 person so far im already getting txt messages for someone else and call. Now if you guys remember i went with prepaid with verizon because i wanted to try them out w/o any commitment and see how coverage is in my area. Well all this call and txt are depleting my funds. verizon didnt credit me too. other than that signal is good. Any suggestions? :-(

Verizon is nice enough to change your number for free because of the circumstances. It's completely not their fault that you are getting txt's from wrong people. Call Verizon again and nicely ask them to change your number again because you are getting weird txts again. Or, if you like VZW, why not port the number from your old carrier over? Then the annyoning texts should stop.

I never said it was VZ fault, i know phone# are recycled but the rep said i couldnt change it again because too many people were calling and wanting to change their number. I told her, my reason for chaging it legit. Also ive never been mean to VZW The few time that ive called ive been nice. No problems.

If you need to get your number changed again, call them again and explain why you are looking to get your number changed again. I'm sure they will do it for you.

I just did the same switch and I'm very happy. I do miss the SIM card though, it's been really annoying because I got a crap phone, and I've had to drag myself to the Verizon store to transfer the address book. Other than that it's great! Enjoy! :D

Yeah for some reason every single Motorola e815 i'd get would have the same problem where it would freeze up three times a day while text messaging. After complaining everyday, they gave up and gave me a new LG VX8300 as an exchange for my troubles.

The E815 does that. They just freeze up, and reset. Takes about 15 seconds and happens to every friend of mine that owns one and to every single E815 I've owned. I like everything else about the phone so I figure I'll just live with that problem. I am a heavy text user so this happens to be at least once a day.
