gMail on a TMobile Phone (Sidekick)

I have a Sidekick II set up with two PoP accounts, one from a university and one from gMail. The university's email comes through almost real time. However, the gmail takes excessive time to be received on the Sidekick (by excessive, I mean 2-3 hours of even longer).

The settings are obviously correct since the mail does get through but due to the delays on gMail, it's not too functional.

Has anyone else experienced a similar situation or found a solution or at least a reason why this happens?

(I've searched the wireless advisor forums, gmail's site, hiptop, etc. and although there are posts about gMail, nothing that satisfactorily explains this specific problem.)
