How to: Get Rooted Gingerbread on DROID X - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog If your phone is rooted already you don't have to follow all these steps and re-root your phone. I just downloaded the zip file, made a backup of my current ROM, then told it to install the zip file. Only problem I ran into was when it booted up and I signed into my google account seemed to be taking way too long to finally take me to the main screen. So I pulled the battery, and put it back in after that all was good.
Saw the video of Gingerbread on the DX. It looks sweet. Wouldn't mind adding it to my phone, just not so sure about rooting it, though. Haven't ventured into those waters yet. Hopefully Verizon won't take a century to update the Droid X with it.
Take the rooting plunge, you wont regret it! The new gingerbread has much better battery life and the new MotoBlur is a VAST improvement.
Haven't gone the "rooting" route so far. And I didn't end up needing to to get the Gingerbread update. Verizon finally sent out the update to the Droid X on June 1st. I promptly updated to it and have been enjoying it since. Much better than FroYo. Then again, updates like this usually are...
