Nope not fixed. As I said it wipes out the modem and then it finds the software for the MTP device and finds it but keeps finding it and if you cancel out it says there was a problem with the installation, so NOPE it's not working!!!!!!!!! Don't think it's ever going to work. Verizon was "supposed" to send this up to a higher level supervisory position to look into the matter. I am however going to try it on another computer this afternoon and see what happens, regardless I think I am taking everything back as I can see from some of these posts I WAY overpaid for my memory cards and Verizon "said" they had noted on my account that local management is to take the cards and the software kit back and refund my money. We'll see about that, cause I know I will have a problem there. Is it supposed to wipe out the modem when you install the fix and then just list your phone showing no modem?
Yes, when u initially set it up, it shows as the Motorola USB Modem. Then when u run the sync fix, it will no longer show the phone as Motorola USB Modem, but will sow it under Media Transfer Protocol, or something along those lines. It wont show as modem b/c technically it is out of modem mode. And if its unplugged, how could it show up in device manager at all? I have one last thought, and u may have already tried this. Install the drivers so the phone charges. Then, plug in the phone...it should be in under Motorola USB Modem. What happens when u go into Tunes and Tones and hit sync? Wont it try and fire up Windows Media Player and self install the MTP device? Lastly, are u using WMP10 or WMP11? Some have had no success with WMP10, but when they upgraded to WMP11 beta 2, it solved some problems.
I went to Verizon, they said I didn't have the lastest software so they updated my software. Now my phone shows up as a Motorola V3M (not a V3C). I had media player 11 and they said I had to uninstall 11 and install 10 they only knew how to make it work with 10. So did that and still not work. Just tried and installed drivers, as soon as drivers installed even b4 I installed the fix I got a new hardware window pop up and said found MTP device Motorola V3m, hope was soon destroyed because it couldn't find the software and couldn't install the V3m either. Still have yellow? out beside other devices. When I hit sync connection failed and it tried to install the MTP device, said it was installed but will not work properly until reboot, reboot and when PC starts another MTP device new hardward wizard comes up and this time regardless of where I tell it to find the software it can't install it. Phone will not charge now. Verizon did give me my money back which was a relief for the memory cards and the essentials kit. I will install media player 11 and try again.
Strange. So they flashed your phone to software version NEWC_1.09.02? The fact it was being installed as a "v3c" disnt matter, mine always had and never had any probs. The problem is with Media Center. The user NCCGS was havign a nightmare of a time getting bitPim to see his phone. No matter what he did (using MCE), it wouldnt work. See this post -> http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/418782-post3.html that as soon as he used another version of Windows XP, it worked flawlessly. MCE has posed some sort of problem for EVERYONE I have helped. Im not saying your solution is a new OS, Im just letting you know why many more people arent runnng into these kinds of problems...whther it be WMP10 vs WMP11, bitpim, driver detection, etc. MCE just poses so many problems with its Comm ports hogging certain services. Im no computer savvant, but I can usually diagnose the razr's probs. Good luck!
Well I don't know what bitpim is but I am going to try it on another computer, not like I don't have a lack of computers, I've got 5 computers, 2 with xp home, 2 with xp professional and one with MCE. I also paid $60 for those cards at Verizon and informed them yesterday I knew I could put music on them by putting them in the slot on my computer and it work that way, but there was no reason to buy there's since I could get them so much cheaper else where. Any suggestions on best prices? The one posted for buy.com was $34.99, know any better prices?
I think you will be pleasantly surprised how smooth everything goes on your other comps As for the cards, Im not sure I have seen any prices significantly lower. Maybe ebay, but probably not by too much. BitPim allows access to the phone's file system so u can transfer certain files, such as pictures. Or overwrite certain things like startup/shutdown animations/sounds, etc.
Hello all. I did what everyone said to do and I had success with syncing to WMP 10. This was a while ago. Now yesterday I just upgraded to WMP 11 and that's when things got sketchy. I redid the drivers and the motorola fix, but I am getting stuck where everyone else is. I can get it to show up as a modem (plugging in USB when phone is off), I can get it to recognize when phone is turned on, but can;t get it to sync with WMP 11 (when press sync on phone get not connected bullshiit message) Has anyone else had success with WMP 10 (like me) but all of a sudden not working with WMP 11. Anyone have success syncing with WMP 11?
MPA, I had success out of the box with WMP10 like you. I upgraded to WMP11, it was a no-go. Then I upgraded to WMP11 beta 2, and it was working fine again. I dont use the sync anymore, but there is an even NEWER WMP11 update out. Have u tried that? And if u have, could that be a problem? Maybe it went from WMP11(no), WMP11 beta 2(yes), WMP11 newest update (no). Who knows if the programmers forgot to add in sync recognizing when they updated? It seem strange. I would say if all else fails, just roll back to WMP10.
Ok I stopped all MCE services from running, however that still did not work. Went to PC with Windows XP Pro, installed driver then fix.exe as per your instructions. Everything looked great until I tried to sync music, no yellow marks of any kind, so I click properties and it says that a driver is not installed for it, then all of a sudden the box pops up asks what program I want to use!!!!!!!!!! Went away really quick so had to do it again and click quickly, now phone is synced. Bottom line is this phone/software DOES NOT work with MCE or if it does I have no idea how, so guess I will just have to use other PC to sync music through USB cable. Spent days and many hours trying to make it work and then in a matter of 15 minutes had it working properly on PC with Windows XP Pro. And BTW, I found SanDisk Mini cards at Amazon.com for $16.95 each, they have a lot of other different brands but please read the reviews before purchasing, mine was ordered from the Digital Media Source listing. They did charge $11 for s/h for 2 cards, it's $4.00 per package and then an additional $3.95 for each item. Beats the heck out of the $60 each I paid Verizon which I promtply returned. And BTW it is working with Media Player 11 on the other PC.
OK I'm having the same problems Squonk described. Sprint v3m, updated to latest software. IBM T40 laptop, only has 2 USB ports, same results on both Win XP Pro, SP2, all the latest patches downloaded and ran the version of DriverTool from the fist post in this thread phone off, connected with USB cable (tried the cable that came with MPT and also one that came with a camera, same results) DriverTool runs and says: Removing old driver .inf files Retrieving device information Installing new drivers Scanning for new devices Done! phone says 'Unable to Charge' then about 10 seconds later the 'Found New Hardware Wizard' pops up, tried all the options there but always end up with the 'Cannot Install this Hardware' dialog I've also tried using MPT but mine will not auto update past 4.21 - I tried Live Update several times and it always says 'Your product is up to date' and never takes me beyond 4.21 Any ideas?
I'll add some of the problems I'm having. Figure I'd add this post here since it has a section for syncing with WMP... I'm almost positive I read that WMP would convert mp3's to wma's when you synced. But alas, I keep getting an error each time I try to sync up an mp3. I finally converted an mp3 to a wma manually and synced it, with huge success. Is there an option to auto-convert before it syncs it up, or did I misread? EDIT: When I hit the sync button, it says it's converting at 0%, then I get the following error. "Error: The server threw an exception." Any clue how to get this to work right?
DriverTool 4.21a is designed for Verizon, Alltel, USCC only. The Sprint V3M's drivers are installed on the machine when MPT has the newest version available, which is 4.36. You NEED to get 4.36 installed before u can do anything. If its MPT 4.21a that u have, open MPT, go into Menu -> Setup -> Update, and it MUST find 4.36. If it doesnt, you will not be able to get the correct usb drivers to charge the phone, and MPT will not detect your phone. Make sure u have done the software update on your phone to get to the newest. Let us know how that goes.
Max, ALLLL of my music is mp3. When i sync with WMP, it converts all of mine with no problem. Im not sure if it is a problem with your actual files that wont let them be converted. Sometimes, if the file has DRM, WMP cant convert b/c it is protected,, but the error messsage will display that. It could be a problem with you WMP that cant successfully convert to wma...
Thanks for clearing that up. I will focus on the MPT update now... Help->About says 4.2.1a Setup->Update results in 'Your product is up-to-date' The update functionality does seem to work - my CD is 4.0.something and during install the update is run and it brings it up to 4.2.1. I've tried removing, reinstalling, running update from MPT setup menu versus from the start menu - all refuse to update past 4.2.1a. Any ideas on debugging or alternative ways to update?
There is a post from another thread -> http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/413890-post5.html Does that help any? Also, read thru Page 6 of this thread, it has some sprint v3m specific info -> http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/razr-phones/56369-motorola-phone-tools-doesnt-work-razr-6.html
Thanks, I had already read those and tried the ideas but did not help for my issues. I did find some info over on the BVRP forums: 1. Sometimes live update either gets confused and will not update OR it thinks you have a pirated version and will not update you. I sent them an email with my proof of purchase, will see what they say. http://www.bvrpforums.com/motorola/viewtopic.php?t=68 2. There is a new driver tool posted over there. This one at least installs the drivers and lets me select my V3m manually. That at least got me to the point where I can use the USB to charge the phone and mess with the contacts and calendar via MPT 4.21. http://www.bvrpforums.com/motorola/viewtopic.php?t=2934
I initially had everything working, with an exception to WMP not converting files to wma format when syncing. However.... I found that installing WMP11 has broken both syncing, and MPT connectivity. I uninstalled WMP11, and did a system restore point, and still can't seem to get windows to recognize my phone. It, however, will charge. I'm quite stumped at this point. I did everything I needed to do beforehand to get it all working, but I can't seem to get the "Motorola USB Modem" to show up.
Can't seem to edit the above post, but... Are there any instructions on how to install the "modem" manually? I'm not quite sure which driver I'm supposed to use.
4 hours and 4 Dr. Peppers later.... And I have it all working again, except that whole converting issue I had... I reinstalled MPT, MSU, ran numerous driver updates, did a system restore beyond when I initially installed everything to no avail. The phone would charge, but the New Hardware wizard would not pop up. I finally popped out the battery for a good 15 min after it was suggested in some misc. forum I ran into in an attempt to fix my problem. And, for some reason this made the wizard pop up after reconnecting everything. If anybody happens to have a similar problem, then hopefully doing this will fix it. Sorry for the board spam! Silly edit button is non-existant.
Cincyball, I just wanted to give you an update and a thank you for helping me a few days ago. I purchased a new USB cable and it works like a charm. Started right up, no problems at all! Funny thing is... The cable I was using was the data cable from my USB hard drive enclosure, which was roughly $40. I bought my new cable at Dollar Tree for $1.00! It's amazing that it worked better than the other one. I had my doubts at first, but I figured I was only out $1, so I gave it a try. Thanks for all the help you gave me!! Squonk.
I been trying to get my v3m work with p2k program and I just can figure it out. I followed the stpes list above but it says that is not connected when I run p2k.
Cincy, you ROCK! Thanks for all the great links/info, I've been successful so far with driver and fix and getting mpt synching (thanks to a couple hours reading your posts). I'm interested in video to the phone and have yet to read a post from you linking to a video thread. I just bought three v3m's from verizon, (2 for my 6yr old daughters). I bought a couple 1GB cards (link below) and am hoping to be able to convert various video files to .3gp files. will mpt do this? If not, please share some more of your worthy wisdom. Thanks again and keep up the great work. Good deal on storage: Buy.com has Kingston 1GB microSD memory card for $30 - $10 with Google Checkout - $10 rebate = $10. Sorry my html sux, :browani: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=202984127&adid=17662
Cephurs, thanks for the kind words. Sounds like you have done your research 3gp is the correct format. MPT should be able to do this, however, I always used an external 3gp converter, and then I just uploaded the video in the File Transfer Studio rather than having MPT convert and send. This site has been up and down for a while, so I hope the link is working when u click it, it is what I always used to make my videos. http://www.motov3m.com/tiki-index.php?page=Movies BTW, nice find on the 1gb cards.
Cool. Loving the .3gp converter, thank you, thank you. Impressive compression ratio! Was a 26mb.mp4, now 12mb .3gp. Very nice. Lots of cartoons on a 1gb disc, hopefully. Running into some issues when trying to transfer files. I read earlier about getting it to a v3mm, do I need to take these steps in order to xfer videos? I may be skipping ahead, as I haven't taken the time to xfer music or pics even. I'm going to restart and play a game of halo before checking for your reply and starting the process again. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us. You are a big deal.
