I'm sorry.. I think I'm getting ahead of things.. lol.. No, it's still not charging after following all the steps you posted at the top.
So u download the zip file ok Unzip it ok plug in the phone ok run driver tool and can u describe what happens?
A dialog box comes up and goes through the following stages: Removing old driver .inf files Retrieving device information Installing new drivers Scanning for new devices Done! But then nothing else happens...
Got me stumped. You are in a rare position. Most people at least have been able to get it connected via usb. It very well could be a defect in the phone, but Idoubt it. What XP are u running? Media Center?
Hey, does the type of cable I'm using make a difference? It's just a standard USB cable that came with a laptop HD enclosure.
That could be the culprit as well. It seems strange that it hasnt worked by now... I used a usb cable that came from my digi camera. But I guess that could be it. im runni outta ideas quick. Usually I can diagnose something basic liek this, haha. Sorry bud
That's no problem at all.. Hey, I'm no worse off than before..lol.. And I've got a good idea of what to do if I can get it to connect. I'm gonna try to see if I have another cable. I had an MP3 player that connected through USB, but I don't know if it's the right size. My dad got a V3m at the same time I did, so I may see if we can get his to connect, and then I may know if it's my phone or not. Thanks for all you've helped me with though! I'll definitely let you know what happens!
Wait, quonk I think I know. Try connecting the phone with it powered OFF. Last gasp, but Id be willing to bet that solves it! Not sure why I didnt think of that before
My service provider is US Cellular. I'm having problemns getting this to work. My computer detects my phone and it charges. I'm just having trouble with the steps after that. Help?!?! Thanks!!
I would believe so, since u have a v3m, but nobody from Sprint has informed me if you can, or how to... Same for you, the V3M should be able to sync with WMP10, but I only have Verizon, and am not sure if the sync will work for you either...those steps afterwards are primarily for Verizon customers
OMG! I love you. i could not get the stupid motorola tools to work but the WMP worked awsome thank you so much!
No problem. Just keep in mind the MPT is for ringtones/pics, etc. WMP is to add wma files to listen to music (no ringtones)
I'm new to this forum so pardon me if I ask questions already answered as it has been stated that this forum has gotten so huge it will take days to read through every post. I have a Verizon V3m with the music essentials kit. I have been literally trying for days and spent several hours on the phone with Verizon and with Motorola regarding this issue. I downloaded and installed per your instructions for the drive and the MDTfix as attached to your post and followed the instructions exactly. I uninstalled and cleaned the registry of ALL entries for Motorola before installing the files you attached. When I installed the driver it indeed showed up in device manager under modems but with a yellow ? beside it, but it did not show as your example shows on your post. I rebooted my computer and installed the MDTfix as per your instructions and when I connected my phone the new hardware wizard popped up and of course it could not find the software on it's on so I had to select to look in C:\Windows\INF file which is where all drivers are installed. Says it has finished and that my device is installed, as soon as I click finish another hardware wizard pops up for the MDT, bottom line I have completed the install harware wizard no less that 50 times and it keeps popping up. Now the Motorola modem that was previously showing in device manager no longer exists, it is "POOF" gone!!!!! :loony: At 1st when I installed the software from the disk it did charge my phone, however, now it will not even charge the phone. According to tech support with Motorola, this phone is only supported in Windows XP which technically there is no such thing as Windows XP, there is XP Home Edition, XP Professional Edition and XP MCE Edition. I have Windows XP MCE to which the Motorola tech advised me that Razor Phones were not supported by MCE only by Windows XP. Windows MCE is Windows XP Professional with Media software added thus becoming MCE. Any instructions/help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! I am so frustrated after having spent $$$$$$$$$$$$ on the phones, the memory cards and the kit with no help from Verizon or Motorola.
The comon problem with MCE is that the caller id feature hogs the comm ports. Try disabling caller id (i dont have mce, so i cant tell u how), and then run the steps. Let me know if that does anything. Also, make sure u are using a REAR usb port. Dont use a hub, or a front port. Lastly, lets get your phone in as a modem before trying to run any kind of Windows Sync fixes, etc.
Ok disabled Caller ID in MCE and reinstalled the drivers. My phone is now charging, however, there is no listing in Device Manager for the Motorola Modem. Nothing shows up in add/remove programs in regards to drivers etc. for my phone. My phone is turned on and connected to my PC through a rear USB port, a new hardware wizard did not popup. And it is not listed anywhere, I ran the search for new hardware wizard and it didn't find anything, there are no yellow ? ! marks in device manager, it's just plain not there. The only modem that shows is my phone/fax modem. I have not applied the sync fix at this time, awaiting your reply. TIA for your help.
Ok, which drivers did u install? The drivertool4.21a? If so, it should show as Motorola USB Modem in device manager. It isnt doing that?
Tried that still no modem listed in device manager. Not even giving me a pop up new hardware wizard when I turn my phone on or connect it. Should I install the Verizon software 1st and then the driver you posted?
No, dont use the verizon software at all. It has been claimed by verizon themselves that it is full of problems. Completely get rid of it out of the comp. Connect the phone, andd then run drivertool.
Never put it back on after I removed it and also cleaned out all entries in registry, so at this point there is nothing installed except the driver that you have posted on this site. When I run that .exe with or without my phone on the .exe file does not indicate that it found any devices and it does not list the driver in device manager.
:headscrat <-- me. So it says it is uninstalling old .inf files, etc. and it wont recognize the new phone?
haha. I think its about 98% of the people who can at least get the phone charging and showing up as Moto USB Modem. It can only mean its a setting within your computer.
i cant get it showing as a modem either.. it just charges n it 's me OFF!! i thought it finally worked yesterday when i posted my previous reply, but i found out later that night that it doesnt even show as a USB modem! my fone has been nothing but aggravation and confusion.
Update, ok so I completely ridded my PC of any and all traces of Motorola, VCast and Verizon through the registry. Followed your instructions to the "T", still no Motorola modem, so although you said NOT to I installed the driver I downloaded from the Verizon site but did not install the Music Manager, then I installed OVER that the driver you have posted here and..................... WOOHOOOOOOOOO I had a Motorola Modem. Disconnected my phone and turned it off, rebooted the PC and followed the final instructions of installing the fix.exe. That's when things went down the tube. As soon as I installed the MTPfix and plugged my phone in the new hardware installation wizard popped up saying new MTP device detected "Motorola V3c (although I have V3m). Click to install software automatically and it of course cannot find the software, click the back button tell it to look in C:\Windows\Inf folder, it installs the MTP device successfully, click finish. As soon as you click finish another new hardware wizard pops up same thing, and again and again and again, it pops up regardless of what I do, it would continue to do that as long as I sat here and went through the process of installing the MTP device, I think it would do it for days if I was stupid enough to sit here and do it (no comments on that please ). Immediately on the 1st pop up for the "new found hardware" MTP device Motorola V3c detected, it wipes out the Motorola modem, so now no modem and no software installed for the phone, just a big yellow ! mark out beside "other devices > Motorola V3c" I looked in drivers and yes the driver that was downloaded and installed from this site was in the windows system 32 driver folder and was recognized UNTIL I installed the fix.exe. For some reason the fix.exe removes the association to the driver. Some may not know as I didn't but figured out, the Motorola driver only shows in Device Manager when the phone is connected, when you unplug your phone from the PC the modem is not listed, so if you are looking for it and don't have your phone plugged into the PC you are not going to see it. Here is the email response I got from Verizon then spoke with them and Motorola for hours trying to figure out what was wrong, but as with any tech support they are clueless, that's why forums like this are so great, we the lay people who don't get paid a dime know how to work their products better than they do, so when you need help, find a forum and don't bother calling tech support, honestly, I had a tech come out to work on my computer and had to SHOW him how to put it back together because he didn't know what went where. From Verizon: Please follow the steps below to enable Windows XP to properly detect the RAZR V3m: 1. Download the necessary patch from this link: http://support.vzw.com/pdf/Sync_Music_Fix.exe 2. Power the handset on. 3. Connect the USB cable to the PC & the RAZR handset. 4. Click on the download "Sync_Music_Fix" to run the program. Upon completion it will display "Done". 5. Power the handset off. 6. Disconnect the USB cable from the PC & the handset. Once the above steps are completed, you can return to Windows Media Player and select the music you wish to sync to the RAZR and continue with the steps below: (does this make sense to return to Media Player and select the music your wish to sync with the #7 instructions?) 1. Power the handset on. 2. Reconnect the handset to the PC with the USB cable. 3. On the RAZR, press "OK" to select the "MENU". 4. Select "Get It Now". 5. Select "Get Tunes & Tones" then press "OK". 6. Select "Sync Music" and press OK. 7. Windows Media Player will launch and the RAZR should now show "Connected". If Windows XP is still not detecting the RAZR properly after following these steps, assistance from Motorola will be required. We request that you please contact Motorola directly to resolve this issue. They can be reached by dialing 1-800-657-8909, select option 1 and ask to be referred to the Motorola Cellular Service Bulletin issue 558 (CSB #558). Nice customer support Verizon!!!!!!!!!
Ok, so now it works? Or it still doesnt? Almost everyone has had some kind of problem with the Music Essentials Kit. Thats why I never bought it, so I dont know how it acts w/ the driver tool driver. As for the modem, yea, u would need it plugged in to see the modem. At any rate, I hope yours is fixed.
