Verizon makes it as difficult and problematic as possible to sync your music from your pc to the v3m phone.

I bought ALL the required accessories from Verizon to make it work and it STILL won't connect!

I loaded the cd-rom from the music essentials kit, did step one: it said "drivers installed successfully, plug in phone now" ; when I did the 'found new hardware' window from xp came up and I clicked "install drivers automatically" like I was supposed to, and then it said "software can't be found for your hardware". I even tried pointed it directly to the drivers folder on the system where it was installed, but get the same response.

If you look at the drivers folder on the cd-rom, it says 'windows 2000'. Don't know if that would make a difference, but xp is supposed to be able to handle that anyway. Why would verizon not make drivers specifically for XP??

If ANYONE has gotten the sync with the pc option to work, PLEASE let me know how you did it? Or let me know what I need to do to correct the problem I'm having with the driver installation.

    thanks!

Can I get it hooked up without doing stuff to the phone that will null my warranty? Last phone I had with verizon I needed that warranty!

Yea, none of this will void your warranty. Its their software thats the prob. We just use these free drivers to connect with Windows Media Player.

    Thanks,
I downloaded and tried to install, but I get the same problem. The hardware wizard says it can't find the hard ware for it. Could this be some computer problem? Or some computer setting that's not right?

Try connecting it with the phone powered off.

When you run the application that he linked to, you have to be sure to minimize windows until you see a window that says something like "Searching for USB devices". Don't do anything until that goes away.

I'm not a very patient person and have been in computers for 20+ years and feel a vibe for if something is working or not. I thought it was locked up and was just about to pull it and retry when it finally started working...so give it a bit of time, it doesn't react as a normal driver installation etc.

EDIT : BTW Yes Verizon SUCKS. They are the biggest joke when it comes to logistics. They sent me over a pound of useless papers and brochures, and a website to activate my phone. After ALL of that, I still had to call in and give all my numbers to the 'tech' on the other line who finally figured out how to activate my phone. Then they had me *228 it , twice. At any rate, yes they just want people that want cool phones that do NOTHING but talk alot. AFter all they make no money on people who may use their phone as an mp3 player from songs downloaded from limewire etc etc.

    hmmmmmmmmm

Ok I did everything that seems to find success for everyone else, but for me nothing is working.

My computer sees the usb modem but does not see the phone as an mp3 player in MY COMPUTER nor does it register as a device in WMP 11.

    Suggestions?

Well, it wontr ever see your phone as an mp3 player in My Computer. It doesnt treat it liek a mass storage device. Instead, you have to add all music via WMP. Lastly, what version of windows are u running and what service pack?

I have it working now. Im short. When the instructions on the sticky in these forums say : goto tunes and tones. I was assuming that people were talking about WMP player the way it was written.

I finally realized they were talking about the PHONE ITSELF. When I clicked on get it now > etc etc SYNC, it popped up and I was ready to start filling up my whopping 24 megs of free data space!
    Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Ok newegg time :) MiniSD x 2 for both phones :)

Awesome! Just be VERY CAREFUL. The card you need is MICROsd, NOT MINIsd. They are very different!

Ok I thought it worked, but it didn't. I used it with the phone 'off' and the drivers you suggested worked, it recognized it, and it immediately started charging the phone.

So I then open windows media player 10, and it didn't see I had a connected device. So I powered on the phone, and when I did, the found new hardware thing came on again. I ignored it at first, and then tried to use the sync option on the phone, and it said there was no connection. What am I doing wrong now? I don't want to try to install the drivers AGAIN until I hear what may be wrong.

sorry to be such a pain, but I guess we all know how much of a pain this phone is by now...

try updating to Windows Media Player 11, and see if that takes care of some of the problems.

hate to spin off as I recognize my error, but some of those threads are WAY to long to sift through so I'll just tell you what I MAY THINK is the issue from experience. Hopefully mod gods won't be unhappy with me continuing this thread.

Ok - First off I had my phone turned on and wmp up and running. I then went to the phone and went through Get it now > Get Tunes & Tones > Sync Music. You have to wait a bit. It will then finally say 'Connected' on the phone.

When you attach the phone, do you hear the patented USB DaDing? If not, then it's an issue with your computer. Try rebooting to reset your USB. Also some computers are VERY ____ about 'safely removing hardware' before removin g a usb plug. Usually it is device specific but many times the USB drivers are ____ themselves.

Also DID YOU RUN the SyncFix listed in those sticky instructions?

Ok so obviously it recognizes the phone adn when you plug it in, recognizes it again. Now you say that you hit SYNC and it did nothing? At this point it should have installed drivers AGAIN. Not just the 'modem' drivers but different ones.

A safe way to make sure you did everything in the proper order is to restart the computer after being turned off for 8 seconds. Reinstall the drivers. Reattach the phone, Then install the patch then try to do everything (or follow the instructions in that Sticky to the T again).

One thing is for sure, your phone MUST be found as a memory or mp3 device (or whatever flashed up for me) once you plug your phone in and turn it into sync mode. Thats how I got mine working. I was not syncing on the phone and was trying to do it through WMP.

I could not understand why WMP would not find it as a device. One you sync the phone and it installs the drivers, if you have WMP11 running it will immediately pick it up and show it as a device on the LEFT hand side under library etc etc.

Also Cincy is posted somewhere a link to a guys site (marks site) that has some more lengthy dummy proof steps to go through. Thats the site I went to , to realize that tones & tunes was not a WMP option but an option on the phone. (Shows you how much Iused my phone prior to this!). On this site, there are KNOWN ISSUES with wmp 11 early versions and the V3M!!!!!!!. I would goto google and type "windows media player 11" follow the microsloth link and download the newest package. Its a few minute download. Then, run it and THEN try to sync your music up.

Be sure to download and run that patch. I was clicking on that patch like 5 times so shouldn't be a harm to run it several times on your end either :) After reboot, after trying to sync, after trying to etc etc etc. (I shouldnt have had to though as my issue was just stupidity on my part)

After sifting through a bunch of these threads, am I correct in assuming the Alltel V3m is pretty much useless with WMP ?

Even if you remove the microSD card from the phone and hook it up directly to the computer and load songs via WMP, you won't have anyway to play em once the microSD card is reinstalled in the phone ?

I appreciate everyone's help, but after doing everything everyone has told me to do, on TWO different computers even, the only thing it will do is recognize the phone to CHARGE it. It won't sync to the system. The drivers will load when the phone is 'off', but when the phone is 'on' they won't load, and the hardware finder says they can't be found, even though I'm doing the exact same process as i do with the phone 'off'.

I can get the drivers to load successfully with the phone off, it recognizes it, and then when I turn on the phone to put it in sync mode, the hardware manager comes up again asking for the drivers I've just successfully installed. And it won't find those drivers.

I'm giving up. I'm not wasting my time talking to an ingorant verizon representative, with the money I've invested in it already, I could've gone out and bought a portable mp3 player by now.

Thanks again for everyone's help...wish it would've worked.

VERIZON IS NOT ARROGANT! Lol I could barely type that without laughing.hehehe. Ok yes, yes they are. They define arrogance. BUT when you are the only kid on the block with the lemonade, sometimes you can even sell p*ss and get away with it, and stand there laughing.

Again, lets hope a good company comes from all of this by the time we are old and the wireless chip that will be implanted in us will actually work the way we want without mods lol.

Ok well, to touch base with you again if you are still watching this thread. The information you provided seems to be incorrect as far as the steps.

Or maybe I did things incorrectly and that's how I got mine to work.

Either way. I'm already convinced that I would much rather have my crappy Ipod than my even crappier razr playing music. Eventually I'll break down and buy the Sony mp3 player which in our family we have but I have no access to it so, it is something I truly like better than the ipod,..but I digress.

Here is what I did step by step to get my phone working.
-I plugged my phone into my usb cable. I made sure that I didn't have a little block or cylinder on my usb cable as that is an in line filter that will not work properly. So I used one that I know works with other device other than what it was made for originally (a sony digi cam).
-Next I downloaded the driver tools found in this link toward the bottom of the first post http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/razr-phones/59219-getting-your-v3c-m-connected.html
-I ran those drivers with my phone turned ON.
-It eventually found my phone and it displayed as a modem. I believe I restarted the computer and the phone to make sure it all 'kicked in' but my ADHD was kicking in high so Im not sure if I did anything in the correct order here. Alas, it did show as a modem in device manager.
-Then I installed wmp 11 from microsloth. I check for the device and it wouldn't find it.
-I reread the instructions, realized that I did not download the phone sync fix thingy and then downloaded and ran that, with the phone on.
-WMP still didnt find it, so I rebooted thinking that maybe rebooting was really needed (usually it is not, esp with usb devices).
    -Still no go.
-I tried again to run the Sync fix tool, phone still not found in WMP
-I then reread the instructions, followed the link to MARKS SITE and realized they were not talking about TUNE AND TONES in WMP but on the phone.
-So with WMP running, I turned the phone off and back on. Dading, was heard. I went to get it now> tones and tunes> and pushed Sync. LIke 3 times as it didnt seem to register.
-Then I heard another dadading after about 30 seconds. My computer started saying NEW HARDWARE FOUND toward the bottom of the screen near the clock, I just sat there waiting for all of that to go away. Maximized my WMP and it was listed in there.

If you tried this on two different computers, then you are doing something wrong or DID something wrong in the past.
I would make sure that you run windows update before all of this and make it download all the crits. Be sure you are running service pack 2 , right click on my computer and click on properties. Under the SYSTEM heading, you will see SERVICE PACK 2. If you do not see that, download and install it.

If after this it still doesn't work. Try to take a break from all of this and redo all of the steps as there is something definetely wrong in your procedures based on your statements.

You said that you did most of this stuff with the phone off. Leave it on the whole time and use the usb cable connected to the computer.
Try moving the ports of the usb cable. Especially if you are using the front jacks, move them to the back USB ports. I'm not going to go into a lengthy discussion why but trust me, the back ones are notoriously better than the fronts. Especially with 'name brand' computers.

You also said you tried running the hardware finder. That thing doesnt work. Never use it again. :) It's a last desperate hope and usually 99.9% of the time there is another thing you should be doing. If you install drivers, then plug a device in, the device should work fine without a hardware wizard. But like I said, try doing everthing with the phone plugged in from the get go. (I hate that term so , ok from the start).

Anyway post back if you wish as to what your results are. You may be doing much like myself, rushing through the process in frustration or in a intoxicated stupor (such as me), either way - slow down and do it all again.

heheh yea thanks! :) Gotcha :)

Sometimes I screw up tech terms but I know what I am thinking and realize things before I buy them. MOST of the time. Comes from years of buying online hehe.

I am a new member, and I've had problems getting my PC to recognize my V3m, but I was able to do it no (few) problems on my Sony laptop. I'm going to do as Cincyball suggests and try using the rear modem and see if that works. I'll let you know.

I have Motorola Phone tools and can connect to my V3m. Transfering phonebook and picture files with PT is no problem - I can also transfer Wav or MP3 files to my phone from my computer via Phone Tools/Melody Studio - but I can't access the music on my phone.

The obvious place for these files is in (softkey) Music/Sprint Music Store/Player ...but they're not there.
Using the Phone Tools / File Transfer tool I can find all the Music which is transfered by default into the "Audio" File. Then using File Transfer I can see 4 main files on the phone Audio, InCamera, InCamcorder and MMC. The music is in the Audio File but using the phone menus I can't get to it????

I'm confusted by some of the posts which say to access music on the phone go to Get It Now -> Get Tunes and Tones -> Sync Music.

There is NO such menu on the Sprint RAZR. The only obvious place for the WAV files is in the Music/ Sprint Music Store. The total Master menu on the phone is: Web, On Demand, My Content, Pictures and Videos, Bluetooth, Call History, Messaging, Contacts, Media player, Music(Sprint Music Store), Tools and Options.

I've searched all these menus and can't find either the WAV or Mp3 files I transfered.

The reason you are confused about the "Get It Now -> Get Tunes and Tones -> Sync Music" is because that is for the Verizon v3m. Believe it or not, there are companie other than Sprint that sell the razr :p

I dont own a Sprint razr, so I dont know which folder MUSIC needs to be in, but anything you transfer to the Audio folder is probably only set to be RINGTONES. However, if u cant even see them in the phone, check to makesure the file names are not longer than 30+/- characters. If they are, the phone wont show them. Also, if there are special characters in the title/file name, that would be a prob as well. So givethat a shot.

Also, if you are looking for .wav or .mp3 files on your RAZR, you won't find them, as RAZR only supports .wma (Windows Media Audio) files.

I found a cool converter called "Switch" that will convert you mp3's into wma format. You can then add them to Windows Media Player and sync to your RAZR. Here is the link: http://www.nch.com.au/

PS: I was having trouble Syncing my RAZR, then I connected my USB to the BACK of my PC, and everything works now! The USB connections on the front don't seem to work.

That wma crap is for verizon only. The rest of the razrs can play mp3 without problems. And the need to SYNC is again a Verizon feature only. The rest of the razrs, mp3 files can be added straight to the memory card.

No problems, but yea, Verizon seriously cripples their phones. At first, you think , well maybe they just dont understand the customers...but the more u think about it, the features they crippled are the ones that make them the most money :censored: Coincidence? I think not.

I double checked my file names and they were short 10 charaters I also tried a WMA file and Motorlola Phone Tools doesn't even see this file type.

I can sync my phone perfectly and transfer files pictures syn my Outlook contacts etc all through Motorlola Phone Tools _ and I can file tranfer or Melody transfer Wav and MP3 files to the phone I just can't acces the music from the phone.

I also can't sync with Media Player 10 - I my device doesn't appear. Yes my Motorola USB modem is in my control panel and is working, but the phone doesn't appear as a device in My Computer etc.

Transfering Music to Razr V3m on Sprint

I have a Motorola RAZR V3m and my subscriber is Sprint.

I bought Motorola Phone Tools and can connect to my V3m. Transfering phonebook and picture files with PT is no problem - I can also transfer Wav or MP3 files to my phone from my computer via Phone Tools/Melody Studio - but I can't access the music on my phone.

The only obvious place for music on a RAZR V3m is in (softkey) Music/Sprint Music Store/Player. (The total Master menu on the phone is: Web, On Demand, My Content, Pictures and Videos, Bluetooth, Call History, Messaging, Contacts, Media player, Music(Sprint Music Store), Tools and Options.) Using the File Transfer feature of Phone Tools I can see the following files on the phone: The Master File is; Audio, InCamera, InCamcorder, MixedMedia and MMC (the storage card removable.) The MMC file has a sub file for Music.

Using the Phone Tools / File Transfer tool or the Melody Studio I can transfer Mp3 and WAV files to 2 locations for music. Melody Studio transfers either type of file by default into the main"Audio" File. Using the File Transfer I can see the music files in the Audio folder but using the phone menus I can't get to it and no I can’t access them via Music/Sprint Music Store/Player.

I can transfer “aac” files to my storage card; the Music sub folder of MMC and play them using Player; however the Melody Studio in Phone Tools doesn’t see this type of file??? Also once in MMC they can’t be transferred to the phone and can’t be assigned as Ring Tones etc.

I have considered the Mixed Media file however clicking Media Player makes the phone connect to the Internet which will incur charges.

Could they make this crap any more complicated??

If anyone can add anything I’d love to hear it. I really want to be able to make/transfer my own ring tones etc.

Here's the latest. I can now transfer MP3's and Wav to the phone and play them. Using Phone Tools Transfer Wizard only - The Melody Studio doesn't work - transfer files to the MMC music file only - then use right softkey Music and the songs will come up in the play list.

You can only play songs on the removable card NOT on the phone.
You cannot use anything for RingTones but ones you download from Sprint - the Basstards have blocked this feature on the phone.

I dont know how to do it, but you CAN make your own ringtones with MPT. There are plenty of users that have done so. Their phone and MPT software fully updated, it works...

Thanks Cincyball - I'd love to hear from someone. When I highlight a song on my removable card I can right soft key a menu which gives me only 3 choices 1 add to playlist 2 remove and 3 go to store.

Apparenently there are are other menu items, which should be available, which Sprint has blocked; one of which is and "assign as" key which would allow you to assign a song as a ring tone.
