Tried a new place tonight in Hanover Park, Illinois called the Tap House Grill. Had five cheese macaroni and buffalo shrimp with blue cheese dressing. The five cheese macaroni was very filling and I couldn't finish it, so I brought the rest home.
Good question. I thought the same thing when I saw it on the menu, since it didn't specify. I should have asked, but I didn't ask. I could taste a lot of cheddar and some parmesan. https://taphousegrills.com/menu-hanover-park/
Talk about a disappointment. We decided to try a new place. I ordered grilled chicken tenders. You can see from the picture I got fried chicken tenders, and you can also see the chef obviously forgot about them in the fryer. They were way over cooked. My wife ordered roasted brussel sprouts with bacon, parmesan cheese and a glaze. I think she ate about 5 of them.
Went to the Village Tavern tonight. We ordered world famous chicken tenders, grilled cheese panini and a turkey, cheese, lettuce & tomato sandwich on a pretzel bun. The chicken tenders have a great coating and come with a homemade blue cheese dressing. The grilled cheese panini has american, swiss, mozzarella and colby jack cheese. The turkey, bacon, lettuce & tomato on a pretzel bun had so much sliced turkey I had to take some off to bite the sandwich. http://www.village-tavern-grill.com/
A group of us make Kielbasa from scratch every Memorial Day weekend. Some of the group is Polish, some married to one, and some are Polish by long association. It is a two day process, my job is too stuff the casings. Nothing is artificial, the casings are natural pork. We use a vintage meat grinder that needs to take a rest every so often. Here is a closeup of one of the completed packages.
Memorial Day weekend. Decided to smoke some salmon and Johnsonville bratwurst burgers with some mesquite.
Making Barbecue country style ribs in the slow cooker, and then finishing off on the grill. My first time so if I blow it, there won’t be any pictures.
Charlyee, your barbecued ribs came out great! They look delicious! Naperville, Illinois has a big Rib Fest every year. Years ago it was real small and we would go to it every year, now it's really big with TV and radio stations there. When it was small, I tried some ribs that were really good and asked how they cooked them. They told me all they do is they constantly (every 7 minutes) baste them with olive oil and soy sauce and when they are about done they sprinkle them with celery salt. I have cook my ribs that way ever since. It really give them a different taste
Thanks palandri, That is a very interesting recipe, I will have to try it next time. Thanks for sharing.
While I was on the road, I stopped by a Wendy's for a quick bite to eat and discovered the most amazing item I have ever found at a fast food restaurant. Meet the Berry Burst Chicken Salad. It has grilled chicken, strawberries, blueberries, feta cheese, almonds with a raspberry vinaigrette dressing.
Discovered an interesting twist on chicken wings. I stopped by a place called the Twisted Spoke Smokehouse in Burlington, Wisconsin . You get eight, naked, king sizes wings, with a variety of BBQ sauces (no real hot sauce) to try on the wings.
New Italian restaurant opened by me, so I had to check it out. It's called Napoli Per Tutti https://napolipertutti.com/ Ordered their Antipasto Misto and it was delicious
Went to Iron Grate BBQ, located near the Milwaukee airport. This place was featured on the Wisconsin Foodie TV show as the most authentic BBQ. The owner/chef fires up the humongous smoker at 2:00 am and the first batch is ready at 11:00am. The place is open from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. We (5 of us) went at 6:00 and they had started to run out of some of their specialties already. The place is spartan with cafeteria style seating and extremely helpful and friendly staff of 2. I had the pulled pork, it was really really good. The best pulled pork I have had outside of NC. The smallest amount was a pound, so I had one dinner and two lunches out of it. It was accompanied by excellent baked beans with chunks of meat in it. Two of the others wanted brisket but they were out of it. We were enjoying our food so much that 5 people with Smartphones didn’t remember to take any food pictures. I did take a picture of the smoker, however: The owner/chef took a picture of two of the happy patrons.
Friday night went to Mitchell Fish Market, it’s a well known seafood restaurant around here. We ordered the crispy calamari as an appetizer and my dinner was the pecan crusted rainbow trout. They make these amazing smashed potatoes which are so good. Dessert was shark fin pie, a chocolate, ice cream, nuts, and whipped cream, sinful, decadent concoction.
Grilled Sausage - Cape d'Agde, France One of the things that was so unique about the meal was the potato slices were hollow, which made it real crisp. I have no idea how they did that.
I should report this post to a moderator for causing people on the ground to salivate uncontrollably.
I was just in Las Vegas and discovered you can still get 99 cents shrimp ____tails at the Fremont Casino
I'm not a big donut fan, but I have seen advertisements for the Donut Bar in Las Vegas a few times where over-sized donuts are invented daily. They are suppose to be open from 7am to 1pm unless they sell out. On my first visit they were closed early because they were already sold out. On my second visit I went at 8am and dang it, they are really delicious donuts https://donutbar.com/
My neighbors are always raving about Garibaldi's where two people can get stuffed for under $20. I thought they were talking about Giordano's which is another Italian restaurant, but a bit more expensive than $20 for two people. Decided to give Garibaldi's a try. We got a patty melt and a 6" egg and pepper sub, all for under $20 with drinks. The food was great and the restaurant has a 60's vibe to it. https://www.garibaldis.com/
