    FYI--New A310 my reception problems

In weeks past I've posted problems with reception (going in and out of extended network where it shouldn't, calls going directly to VM) I was having with my A310 so I wanted to mention here for the benefit of anyone else having those problems that VZW swapped out my first A310 for a new one three weeks ago and my problems stopped. I had gone into my local VZW store to have a tec check my software etc. one more time, and he thought it might be the hardware instead, and swapped the phone for me. At least in my case, that seems to have taken care of those problems.

    FYI--New A310 my reception problems

Hi Tampa, I live in Ft.Lauderdale and have the A310 with the current software that was mentioned in the other post and I notice that my phone goes into analog roaming where it shoudn't. For instance, if I am carrying it in my pocket and pull it out right away it will roam in analog and if I wait a few seconds to half a minute it will go back to digital. Do you think it is the phone or the network maybe? By the way, I took the phone to Verizon 2 weeks ago because of the same problem and they upgraded it to the current software I have now. Oh, I also noticed when the phone is not in my pocket and I carry it in my hand it tends to stay on the standard digital network. Sorry for my rambling and if you have any opinions or suggestions please let me know. Thank you.

Hey Stratfink, you weren't rambling--you were very clear! As far as figuring whether your problem is your phone or the network, there are a number of variables to consider. In my case, I could pretty well guess it was my phone because I could be in an area with a full-strenth Verizon digital signal, and the phone would do a "leaving service area" and go to "extended network" (usually digital around here, but sometimes analog), and then back again. On other occasions I would get a VM notification, without the phone ever ringing (and with no "missed call" in the log), also in areas where the Verizon digital signal was good. It was obvious to me that it had to be the phone, especially since I was having problems in areas where I never had any with my prior phone--for me it was just a question of whether the A310's in general were problematic, or was it just my particular unit. Keep in mind that although some phones in general do hold onto signals better than others--particularly in fringe areas and/or inside certain buildings (my A310's still not as good at that as my old Audiovox), it's not necessarily unreasonable for a phone to switch to analog or extended network if your Verizon digital signal is weak--and if it's a weak signal, having the phone in your pocket will indeed make it more prone to jump to the stronger signal. My phone still does that in certain places, such as in my local movieplex, and in a few spots in the mall--but I accept that as "normal." If you do think it's your phone, I would suggest you take it back to the technician (not a salesperson) at your VZW store, tell them the software update they did on it did not work, and that the phone is just not working where it should. Chances are they'll swap it out for a new one. They did for me! Good Luck. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any more questions.
