Friend to Friend Trial in Albany/Montgomery Mkts

    10/03/2005

On Wednesday, October 12, 2005, Alltel will trial Friend to Friend calling in the Albany (site 690) and Montgomery (site 850) markets. Friend to Friend will enable Alltel wireless customers to select five friends from anywhere within the United States and designate their landline and/or wireless phone number as a Friend to Friend number for just $5. Customers will use M2M minutes when calling these numbers, regardless of whether the designated number is a landline number or another carriers wireless number. Friend to Friend is set-up in the same manner as the MOC.

Friend to Friend provides a great way for Alltel to combat other carriers that advertise extremely large Mobile to Mobile bases. Alltel enables the customer to choose those individuals that they call the most often regardless of their current service provider.

I think this is a brilliant strategy. I also like the fact that you can designate a home phone number to call for free (it counts like mobile to mobile) and change your plan at anytime without a contract extension... I think they'll do a good job of adding new customers as long as their network doesn't suck too bad.

I sure wish VZW was creative enough to come up with this kind of stuff.

When they allowed calling home a while back, I was wishing they were in this market. VZW can't service my house or many others in this market for that matter!

Verizon doesn't have to, really. They're gonig to get new customers regardless of their alternate mobile to mobile calling arrangements.

Yea... the "stock opinion" is that verizon is the best no matter what, so they dont need to spend the money to be creative, but just to back those opinions. I think alltel is going a great job renovating their company into a great wireless carrier. Ever since the logo change Ive liked them more and more everytime I hear something about them. But, I'm a sucker for GSM
