I heard people say that you can get free internet with verizon, It works, I'm on it right now, but my question is..Does it really take your air time minutes? Because..I mean verizon to verizon is free and I was thinking that if you connect to the @vzw3g.com, it would be free verizon to verizon, but I'm not sure. Please explain to me how this works. Thanks! :)

Yes, any use of the internet on your handset during peak times will come out of your peak monthly alloted minutes. No minutes will be deducted from using it on off peak times, if you are on a plan that includes Unlim. N&W.
Note: Be careful with the amount of data that you are using. Verizon will cut your internet feature off if you go over their 5GB of data transfer a month.

Perhaps you didn't read the poster's name. On a serious note, this is very clever and I am curious to find out how well the service works.

I pay $15 per mo for mobile web on my Samsung U740. It's not the same as the full internet, and is about the best offer from Verizon. Does anyone know of a directory of mobile web sites? No all internet play well with the watered down version.

You could try using the Google Mobile Converter. The URL is w w w. google. com/gwt/n
The way is was described to me in a thread that I started a few moths ago is that the google mobile converter will allow you to type in the url that you want to go to. Then it mods it into a format that the cell phone browser and memory can understand.
I am able to go on a few other sites by using that link that I otherwise would not be able to with Verizon's limited web access.

There is no free interet acces on VZW. If you are using Quick2Net, it will use air tme, which is not free during peak hours as noted above. That's about as close as you get. I don't even know if you can still use Q2N -- VZW might have blocked it).

Skweezer is also a good compression service/proxy. If you want to give it a try, got to:

Vcast is a good tease to make you think you have the internet. It's limited by the sites that are simple enough to be used by it. Has anyone created a database of sites that work well in Vcast? Verizon is no help.

As I said before....if you want a free easy to view email system, try gmail!. Another idea is to send a copy of your email to a gmail account. So you can get your emails on your phone as well as home/office.

I take it you mean using your phone to connect your PC to the internet via Verizon's network... it's called Dial Up Networking (DUN) same idea as the early 90s where you used a modem to call an internet service provider such as AOL... when you use DUN, your phone becomes the modem and you are calling into Verizon's servers. this process will take minuets like a normal call (or free NW minuets) and you may be charged for data usage.

    more info here: http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/v.../66191-setting-up-dial-up-networking-dun.html

    ----

In terms of mobile web which everyone else is describing in this thread, you will be charged for minutes and the official story is you need to have some kind of mobile internet plan with VZW. I'm using a 5$/mo internet only plan that takes from my pool of minuets....

there may be ways to get mobile internet without paying vzw (aside from minuets) but that will take research on your own.

I have never heard of free vzw internet anywhere.

I have seen a few web sites with free java games for cell phones, but Verizon chose to use BREW based games, which are not compatible. Does anyone know of a site that has free BREW games? m.yahoo.com doesn't work with VZW because of the BREW/java difference.
