Alltelwirelesstech, this one's for you Here we go once again. I usually have to roam on SID 1290 here in Williamson. Today on four occasions, I got 4 to 6 bars of home signal (SID 126) (with external antenna) but it comes and goes. It comes in very strong, and doesn't fade, I lock the phone on home only mode and it stays for a bit, and then mysteriously dissappears. Could this be the root of my problem here? A Faulty transmitter on the (bts site 377) Buffalo Mountain site?
Looking at where 377 is located, and your distance that you gave me before, i do not think it would be an issue with the site. You are more than 5 miles from that site and not in a flat, few tree terrain. The signal actions you are describing looks like a classic case of weather and terrain allowing signal to hit you then getting blocked by wind moving trees and interference from distance. Per our license, our output in those areas are limited so other carriers tend to overpower us as well. Side note.... i know Alltel has interest in acquiring another rural carrier in WV so maybe it will be this one. They have not released that so not sure who it will be.
not to take this off topic but how do you know what SID your on and also how do you know what site or tower you are using? :|
I can get the SID from my phone and I am very familiar with the Buffalo Mountain sites. I, along with a partner owned VHF and UHF commercial land mobile repeaters and had them on a tower adjacent to the Alltel one. Plus all the experience in wireless comms helps you to notice things like site names, numbers,FCC registration numbers,etc...... Any more questions, I'd love to answer them for you.
ok cool, Alltelwirelesstech that is on this board has access to all the site names/numbers. He is an Alltel Guru. If you have a problem with a 2-way radio or similar device, I can help.
Awesome, well i went on a road trip today and tried to get some pics of towers but they pry blurry but I'll see. Hopefully i can get up close pics of the tower by me
Let me ask a question, I don't mean to pry, But how come the interest in towers? Just curious.... Around here, you have to travel off the highway to the tops of mountains to get to the towers. They are usually grouped in clusters on one site.
Cuz ima nerd. Just curious about the technology and learning about them I don't have to hardly travel to see towers. They are everywhere around here.
I heard you, Us nerdz have to stick together. Around here, for the most part, the towers (cell and otherwise) are usually on mountaintops. Back in my 2-way radio days, I used to go to all kinds of tower sites. The company I worked for had roughly a dozen sites scattered out from Charleston, WV to almost Pittsburgh, PA. Most were 190' and smaller, but they had 2 monsters. 500' and 440'. I never climbed them,(I was the geek in the equipment shed) I was not too fond of heights.
Well, From prior experience, The large multi client shelters, you have: Spiders, Mice, the occasional Snake, etc. (I always kept a garden hoe and 2 cans of bug spray on my truck) As far as cell sites, I've only been in one, It had a small rack of transmitters for the cell service, and then our stuff, (24 Motorola Maxtrac 800MHz radios and an LTR trunking controller, TX combiner, Bandpass cavities, Duplexers, etc, etc, etc.
