So, I guess I was officially out of civilization... . This was on the stretch of Hwy 107, just south of the hydroelectric power plant between Merrill & Tomahawk in No. Central WI. Both my phones showed no service. Interestingly enough the Cingular Service came back about couple of miles before Verizon did. Hwy 107, runs hugging the Wisconsin river and the lack of cell services was made up by the beautiful, tranquil scenery. This the first time I have seen "no service" on both Verizon and Cingular in any place in Wisconsin. I wonder if I had a trimode CDMA would it have worked. Does anyone know if there is any analog in that area...? Thanks
That is weird. You must have been just far enough away from US-51 North. I took that route (US-51 N from Wausau to Land O' Lakes, WI and then went up to Boulder Junction, and then cut over on a County road (forgot which one)) with my family a couple of weeks ago and I had no problems with my Verizon phone (LG VX8000) or Tracfone (Nokia 2600). I don't know if analog is in that area since I have a digital only phone. So like I said, my best guess is that you were just far enough away from US 51 to receive no signals on both of your phones or both towers were down in that area for both roaming partners....which could happen, but I doubt it. Did you see any towers close to Highway 107?
If you had been using a trimode, you may have picked up cellcom amps in that area. Cellcom is not listed as having CDMA in that area.
Hi Gamer, I think I was just far away enough from Hwy 51, infact that stretch is the farthest from Hwy 51. I did not see any towers on 107, I started getting reception as 107 started curving to the east and got closer to 51. I have also taken 51 before and like you said, there is always cell coverage on it
Thanks Gonz, so that area is the Cellcom area, next time I will take my old Nokia 3589i and see if I can pick up Cellcom signal. Good observation Gonz.
Just like I thought. At least Highway 107 doesn't go too far in one direction. At least I think it doesn't. Imagine if it was like that on US 51 North.
Sprint has a small section with lack of coverage on I-94 in Waukesha, WI. Considering it's the most populated county in our state, interesting they have dead spots along the freeway. Dead spot is near The Machine Shed.
My buddy has a place in Clam Lake Wisc.. its on Hwy 77 about 10 miles west of 51 and there is no reception from any carrier that I know of there. We have tried all services in the area and have not had success with any of them.
Seems like you and I live near each other. How do you find your 6015 works indoors in Wauk Co? I have a tough time getting a usable signal at work (I-94 and Hwy 164 on Riverwood Drive) Thanks, Mike
