Hi all. I know there are at least a handfull of car guys (and gals) here, so I thought I would share. My car wasn't getting down the track fast enough yet, so I got the super charger ported to get it moving some more air.

Here's what it looks like stock.

And here are few pics of it not so stock anymore.

Now it's time to go back to the drag strip. :hyper:

Best I've done with the car is 14.6 @ 94.5, but my computer tune is way to rich. I still have to do a little exhaust work, put in 1.9 rockers, and then dyno tune it. My goal is high 13's in street trim.

Very nice Buickman, That sure brings back some memories & one of these days I will be able to get a car to work on.
I just wish I had my old 65 Stang GT 2+2 those cars from the 60's were great cars & a lot of fun to work on (and easy too).

Between you & Joe your going to make me go out & buy a toy & get in trouble with my wife, I can see it coming. :lmao:

I was watching the NASCAR race in Kansas today & they were using the Shelby GT 500 for the pace cars. If I was as close as you were to 1 I would have begged to take if for a spin. :D

Lookin' good. I've been tempted to trick out my Buick since its now exempt from emissions. I already have the Metric 400 tranny in it so it can take whatever the engine puts out. Its a shame the engine doesn't have anything wrong with it. I guess that's what I get for running Mobil 1 oil in it from day 1. Ideally I would like to put a 350 in it, but I could easily fit a 454 in it, just for fun. Its not like I drive the car a lot anymore. If I did that I would still leave the whitewall tires and wire wheels on it just to fake everyone out :)

I love it, a sleeper with a 454 in it would be awsome Jay, you should go for it. :)

Along with the outlet area you see in the pics, we also opened up and polished the inlet a little bit too.

Yeah, an optional engine on my Buick was the Pontiac 301, which was a big block V-8 on the same block as a 454. I love sleeper cars, they're so much fun. I guess that's why I love Chevy Caprices with the police package on them. We used to have one at the rescue squad and I loved driving that car. It really is a shame I can't get the fat whitewalls for the Buick anymore. I had to put new tires on it last year and the old wide whitewalls I used to buy were not available.

I love the sleepers to, my Mom used to have a 1972 Galaxie 500 that had a 351 cleveland in it. The car was a rocket ship on 4 wheels.:D

Best sleeper out there, the 1987 Buick GN. Nobody knows what they are, everyone just says "look at the dork in the Cutlass", then you go out and run a 12 sec 1/4 mile. :D

I do my Stepfather's Brother had one, although IMO I would not call it a sleeper with it's dual exhausts and menacing look, and yes it was fast since it was powered by the 3.8 V6.

I guess you would love my car at the fire dept. it's a 90 Chevy Caprice with the Police package, I do have to be careful though, they were wondering why I was going thru tires so fast, I asked for headers & glasspack exhaust when the exhaust got a hole in it, but the mechanics said they couldn't slip that past the Chief. :browani:

The car has 72,000 miles on it and runs like an animal. It needs a serious paint job though, maybe I will post a picture of it. And you can get to the spark plugs and everything else in the engine, that is what I enjoyed about the muscle cars, easy to work on.

Without a doubt I would get in serious trouble with the Shelby Stang. But it would be worth it. :D

As far as I am concerned the 1990 is the best one. It is the "boxy" body with the 9C1 Fuel injected 350. In 1991 the seat belt mounting was moved from the B pillar to the door frame which is kind of awkward, therefore the 1990 is the best. We had an 86 Caprice when I ran rescue and that thing ran like a bat out of hell.

The most important thing to remember about the 1987 Buick Grand National is that in 1987 it was the world's fastest production vehicle.

I agree it is a nice big boxy car & yes the seatbelt is a pain where they put it, I could never figure out why they choose that spot vs the B post.

The car does run like a bat out of hell & they wanted to move me to a newer dodge, I refused & maybe my next one will be an explorer since we are slowly moving to all 4X4's for winter emergencies.

I can tell you exactly why. New for 1991 model year passenger cars was a regulation that all new cars must either have automatic seatbelts, or an airbag. Chevrolet, not wanting to rework the entire car to fit it with airbags for the last year of that platform opted to move the seatbelt from the B pillar to the doorframe. The logic was that the seatbelt could be left buckled and when the door closed the belt was already there, qualifying as an automatic seatbelt. No consideration was made the leaving the belt buckled made getting in or out of the car difficult, just that it could be automatic. It simply made the car qualify for automatic restraints.

    -Jay

EDIT: I was just thinking... Have you ever taken the car out on a closed track or on a skidpad? I absolutely loved pushing the vehicles to the limits. I used to do that as the squad's 2nd Lt. I'd push the vehicles to the limits on the training course, and any little quirks I discovered were taken care of before they became problems. Its also nice to know what your vehicles do in a worst case scnerio. I used to take new drivers on the course in each vehicle and have them do a sudden stop from 35 mph so they know how the vehicle behaves in sudden stops.
