Yesterday morning my phone went crazy with noise. Got a tornado warning brewing about 20 miles away. Then another two about flash floods. Sounded just like the TV alerts. Loud honking noise. And I thought it was just heavy rain. Att updated my iOS settings for the government EAS service just recently. Seems Verizon got this back in January? iPhone 4 was silent. Only in iPhone 5. On my ATT iPhone 5, it is Settings->Notifications->then scroll to the bottom for "Government Alerts" From there, you can choose to enable Emergency alerts and AMBER Alerts Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
I got my first alert on Sunday night...dust storm warning for Phoenix. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
From the dated article from ABC News Apple also confirmed to ABC News in November that only Verizon and Sprint currently have the alert function. Apple added the WEA alert option in iOS 6. You can turn on the feature under the settings and notifications menus on the phone. http://abcnews.go.com/m/story?id=18434213 Sent from the Blanco Beast, SCH i605
