I just noticed this and can't figure out how this happened. I have a black V3 that was unbranded/unlocked. Being a Cingular customer I figured it would make it a lot easier if I flashed the phone with a branded Cingular Monster Pack Flash which went fine and I got all my Cingular settings, ie., web, email, etc. and I don't mind the Cingular graphics. Now I notice that the phone is locked. I tried my friends T-Mobile SIM and the phone asked me for a subsidy code. I was shocked because the phone was definitely unlocked when I got it. Did the flashing of the phone lock it? Any input on this would be greatly apprciated. Thanks! -- rg56
Ronnie, yes definitely the flashing of the phone with Cingular's version does lock your phone, this has been documented all over at Hofo, there's a fix for that also, just have to read through the modifying thread there...good luck.
Thanks Tony but I think I am out of luck. On HoFo, they say that you can't go backwards once it is flashed and the reason it happened was because I used a Monster Pack, that's what locked the phone, the bootloader. I just tried Cingular since they unlocked my V551 for me but I hit a brick wall there also. They will definitely unlock this phone for me if I fax them the receipt of purchase for the phone. They are under the impression. with my help, that the phone came from them because I was already told that any phone that came directly from Motorola should be unlocked and if Moto locked it they are the only ones that could deal with it. So that was a dead end also. They can tell by my account that there were no plan changes so the phone must of been paid in full, not to take anything away from Cingular, they would unlocked it if I could prove I purchased it there. Oh well. If go to Europe I guess I will have to use my V551, the unlocked one Thanks again for the reply. -- rg56
Hey Ronnie sorry to hear that, why don't you just go to an independent dealer and just have them unlocked it for you? you're gonna have to pay about $20 but i think it's worth if you wan't to used it overseas.. I see why Mike would be hesitant to seemed edit his phone, i feel the same way about doing anything to my silver version and now my black one ( just got home with my new unlocked black Razr) i'll just manually change the web sessions and i should be all set. Let us know if you managed to get your phone unlocked.
Ronnieg56, sorry to hear about the problems you are having with your RAZR. As Tony E. mentioned this is one of the big reasons I don't want to mess with my phone. I don't know enough about seem editing, or flashing/flexing phones. With my luck, the phone would explode!! I also have read so many "Help, I killed my phone!!" stories over at Hofo from bad editing that it makes me wonder if these things really do any good in the long run for most people. I hope you are able to find someplace that can unlock the phone for you. Good Luck!! BTW Tony, congrats on your new black RAZR!! Aint she a beaut!! :browani:
Out of curiousity, Tony, where did you find it at? Is there a place in the Valley that has unbranded/unlocked phones? And do they have a website? So very curious...
The place is in Westwood, down the street from the federal bldg... tel 310-475-1718, ask for Ary (owner) or Francis , tell em Tony R. sends you.. they have the best prices i've found anywhere.
Mike meant to ask you, did you have any problems sending picture messages wiht your Razr, after setting mine, it's still not working, i can get into the browser just fine, just cant send pictures.
Thanks for the info, Tony!! Most of the world phone sites I check out are based in NYC, so it is nice to know there is a place locally. I'm sure there are others, but I have not heard of any of them yet. When I first got the phone I was semi-worried about it saying Cingular on the display (since I have T-Mobile), so I ended up calling T-Mo CS. They stepped me through the setup process for sending pix msgs. The rep that helped me suggested I take a random pic, send it to myself, and see if I get it. I did. So I knew my pix messaging was now working. Since you have Cingular, I don't know if they have the same type of configuration option on their site as T-Mo does. I wonder if Cing's CS would help you with it? You can always give them a try. What about the settings in your Silver RAZR? Can you access the settings in that phone and enter it verbatim in the Black RAZR? Since they are the same phone, you shouldn't have any problem with the config info. I hope this helps, Tony. Let me know how it works out. PM me if you need to.
Yes that was the first thing i did, check the settings from the silver Razr and everything checks ok, i also had Cinlguar send me a new browser set up to authenticate my phone, now they're telling me i need to register my phone to Medianet...
Just to make sure, Tony, are you still not able to send pix msgs? If you aren't and you've done every possible configuration, then maybe Cingular's MMS is proprietary to their phones? I hope that's not the case, and from stuff I've read on HoFo, I know you are not the first Cingular customer to get one of these phones, so we know there is a way to make it work. Maybe the MediaNet registration will do the trick, but what a pain though...
Tony it is a system problem going on now with MMS Picture Messaging. I have been on the phone with tech support directly for the last 45 minutes. All my settings are good also but everytime I send a Pic Msg the error comes back could not send. The tech, after going over all my settings also, sent me a pic msg and I got the option to download it and it said could not be downloaded. He says there is a system problem going on for the last couple of days without an eta of the fix in sight. What's happening is the system is timing out before the pics are sent or received. He just suggests trying it every once in a while to see if it is fixed. -- rg56
ronnie, this must not be everywhere I just tested it bysending and receiving a picture from my computer to my phone and it worked fine.
I just sent two messages to my phone from my PC one to address '718xxxxxxx@mobile.mycingular.com' and one to '718xxxxxx@cingularme.com' I get each one but not the pic attached to them. I am giving up. -- rg56
Thanks Ronnie,Xikle, and Charlyee for your feedback.. that's what i have mine set to and still no go > mynumber@mms.mycingular.com
You did everything you could Tony, at least we know what may be the problem. Let me know what happens.
Tony, are you saying that picture messaging works on your silver but not on the new black, with the exact same settings? Did you have to register your phone no. at medianet for your silver? Just curious. Thanks
i didn't have to do that with my silver one, like i said, the browser is working, i'm able to send text messges, but just pic messaging is the one i'm having problems with, funny how i'm usually able to help those with this same problem and now that i'm going through this i can't seem to find the fix for it... :dunno:
picture messaging Update, on my quest to get my picture messaging working, (Cingular tech support had no clue by the way) i got my picture messaging working.. I went into my server settings and changed those to Cingular settings and then i went into my Web Session Name set up and changed them to use Medianet instead of MMS.
Where does one find a dealer willing to unlock the V3? How can one tell if the cellphone is unlocked? Thanks in advance!
The way to tell if the phone is locked is by putting another provider's SIM card in. If it is locked it will ask you for a "subsidy code", unlocked it will just power up and work. As far as unlocking I think your best and inexpensive route to unlocking your phone if you have to is to do it through Cingular themselves. Just call CS and ask them to put in a request for your unlock code and you should get it back within 5 days. -- rg56
