BellSouth Mobility in Memphis, late 1996. It was an Ericsson candybar phone with TDMA and AMPS, green backlit LED; can't remember the model number. I ended up taking that phone with me to Oxford and RCC; it eventually crapped out on me in 2000 or so.

My mom had a Oki 900 (I think) before that, also from BellSouth Mobility; it was AMPS only. Compared to it, my Ericcson seemed compact and hip.

    That's my answer, too.
Then we were switched to Sprint PCS
When we found we couldn't make a call in downtown Washington DC,
we switched to AT&T prepay, then to CallPlus prepay, then Beyond Wireless prepay.
As TDMA died, we switched to Verizon (family plan); couldn't be happier.
