Re: Finally using Firefox - Firefox 3 released! As far back as I remember it's always been that way the 1.x versions would not consider 2.0 an "update" either.
Re: Finally using Firefox - Firefox 3 released! How is everyone liking the new version I am getting a new computer next week so I will switch it then.
Re: Finally using Firefox - Firefox 3 released! Works fine for me. Had to hack the Google SMS-to-phone & Cookie Editor add-ons to install on 3.0, but they're working fine now as well.
Re: Finally using Firefox - Firefox 3 released! I have heard it is actually quicker does it use less power to run now?
I downloaded FF 3.0 on release day and loaded it on my Windows machine yesterday. No real issues, except the RealPlayer video download plugin isn't compatible, apparently. I don't use a lot of plug-ins, and this one is not essential on my Windows machine. I can't tell yet if it's faster, but I will be looking to see if it's memory usage slowly creeps up over time. They supposedly have fixed this. It was definitely an issue with the 2.x versions, especially if you left FF running for a few days or a week, as I tend to do. SW
So far I'm happy with the new Firefox 3, but I can't wait until the FF3-compatible versions of the Minutes Used/Minutes Minder add-ons for AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, are available. I have several add-ons that aren't working at the moment, but I can live with it...
I have hacked several of my favorite add-ons that were "incompatible" to work with FF3. I have not run into any problems yet. Do you have the links to these extensions?
Here you go: Verizon - Verizon Minutes Used Firefox Extension AT&T - Cingular Minutes Minder Firefox Extension T-Mobile - TMobile Minutes Used Firefox Extension
OK, all of these are unsigned, so modifications are really easy. I can't post hacked versions as it would be against the extension license, but I'll give the instructions. Use IE to download the extension files. Use WinZip or WinRar (or rename them to *.ZIP and you can even use Windows folders) to get the install.rdf file out Edit install.rdf to change the <em:maxVersion> element to have 3 in place of 2 If <em:updateURL> contains URL that is plain http and not https, delete the element. Replace the install.rdf in the file with the edited version Drag & drop new xpi file on the open FF.
