and followed the steps outlined here. Interesting side note, out of my 5 iPhone-wielding friends in Russia only a single one has installed iOS 7.

Thanks for the tips, I looked through my settings and the only one I didn't have right was the diagnostics.

Btw, why have the others not installed iOS 7 and what is your opinion of it?

I have no opinion of it since I only held it long enough to check those settings :) As for why, a couple said "the phone works as it is now, why should I?" while the others used an expression that is loosely equivalent to "those icons are just too butt-effing ugly" (Russian is a potent language as far as swearing goes, so it only takes one word to say BFU). None of them seemed to know what new features are available in iOS 7. Come to think of it, neither do I :)

I haven't looked into everything that is new but by far my favorite feature in iOS 7 is the control center.

More like multiple widgets in a grouping. Unlike widgets that are always there and take up screen space this is a pull up control center.

I wouldn't agree that it is wise to turn off ALL of those features. Some are meant to help iOS to be better, including maps, and some give you new features over time. Like one that estimates on the fly, from what others have seen, how many minutes you are away from home.

The iAds I can see turning off, but not all of rest, unless you are particularly paranoid. There are around 200 new features in iOS 7, and some of the best, IMO, are not the ones largely advertised. :)

Then again, Russians are genetically suspicious. For example when Pres. Kennedy had a breakfast summit with Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev:

JFK: "I'll have a Western Omelette"
Khrushchev: " Huh, then I'll have an Eastern Omelette!"
Er, Premier, there is no such thing as an 'Eastern Omelette'.
Khrushchev: "Hmmm, well then I'll have the eastern portion of his Western Omelette"

Of course this never happened, but it is a good story.

It is a good story :). Unfortunately, it is a bit off the mark, as it shows ignorance, not suspicion :)

That being said, yes, Russians are suspicious by nature. The government has seen to that in the last nearly hundred years.

The way I remember Vaugh Meader doing that comedy skit it was with suspicion in mind. No matter and not important. Yes, I agree about Russian history. Sad, isn't it.

Is there a list of these new features somewhere?

    Thanks much :)

Yes, it is. What's sadder is that things are getting worse again :-(

I've not seen an official list. But google and there are hacker lists. Just don't know if they are complete. I'm pretty sure they are not.

For example. In safari , shows shortened web address. Pressing once expands and auto selects all. Simple copy is done.

Heh :) My step-daughter isn't updating her iPhone either, citing the "ugly" reason.

Thanks for the link vf, finally managed to read through it. Learnt quite a few things from.

As for the Safari address auto select and copy, it's neat but I am not understanding the usefulness of it since "copy" is one of the options in the share link. :)
That's interesting, I maybe in the minority but I never had a problem with the looks and the more I use it, the more it grows on me. :)

At work nobody seemed to complain either.
