U.S. intelligence agencies issued a stern warning to Americans: Do not buy smartphones made by Chinese tech companies Huawei or ZTE. Republican Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas asked the group to raise their hands if they would recommend private American citizens use products or services made by Apple competitor Huawei or smartphone maker ZTE. None of them did. http://money.cnn.com/2018/02/14/technology/huawei-intelligence-chiefs/index.html Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
I have no idea how Huawei could conduct undetected espionage through my Nexus 6P. If there was something solid they could ban Huawei and ZTE. Then to quote Tom Cotton to top it off. He's nothing less than fear monger to me, so I take anything he says with a grain of salt.
I don’t like Cotton either, but he didn’t say that, but the intelligence agencies made that assessment. The ones that successfully implanted undetected security back channels into foreign countries phones and computers, servers. I agree that they could be banned, however there are trade issues to consider and besides Google no longer uses Chinese made phones. The latest Google phone is made from Taiwan and South Korea. I don’t know why they switched. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They're cheap phones, and I just don't trust them. When my dad's phone broke a while ago he bought a ZTE Maven Go Phone, and used that for a little bit, but he just didn't like it. He ended up buying a couple Ebay refurbished HTC's, but in each case, they barely lasted through the warranty period. 2 months ago he got a Motorola X 4th generation unlocked from Best Buy, and he has been super happy with it. I need a new phone to retire my Sony Xperia XA, I just haven't decided what to get yet.
I thought I remembered Huawei telecom equipment (behind the scenes stuff) being banned from the US. So I looked it up: http://www.bbc.com/news/business-29620442 I guess that ban was lifted at some point.
I just bought Unlocked Huawei Mate Se and before that I was using Xiaomi Redmi Pro SE. No problems with either one. I refuse to pay $1000 for a cellphone. And my life is not that interesting for China to spy on me. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Apple and Samsung paying Government to eliminate cheaper competition
