Okay, I'm a newbie, so pardon me if I accidentally make a wirelessadvisor.com faux pas, but I need some advice. I'm really not sure what to do: I have had a Samsung A-460 for about 4 years now. The one I'm presently using is a refurbished model, but my previos A-460's LCD screen did not work. The Sprint guys stated this was an inherent problem with the phone and got me a replacement free of charge... This replacement happened back in November. Now my phone does not work after I have received or made a call. For example, if someone calls and I hang up, I am unable to make an outgoing call or receive an incoming call afterwards. The phone does dial out, but the "connecting" screen with the flashing phone pops up. After a minute or so, it times out and says "sprint pcs service is unavailable." This makes no sense, considering that there are four bars at my house. If someone tries to make an incoming call, their call goes directly to voicemail. This happens if whether or not hang up by flipping the phone closed or using the "end" button to terminate the call. I even turn off and turn on the phone (even with a minute or two delay) and it still does not resolve the issue. It takes about 10-15 minutes before I am able use the phone again. This has been happening for about 5 weeks now, in all locations (including other metropolitan areas). My situation is as follows: The person at the Sprint store offered me two options, neither of which is appealing: Get a new replacement phone for $55 (same model as this one), or get an upgrade to a new phone for $35 with a two-year advantage agreement. $55 is awfully lot for this phone, and I prefer not signing another agreement (I'm about halfway through mine). My question is this: Can I purchase another Sprint phone (from online or elsewhere), and use it with my account? Will I have to spend money for an activation fee? Also, I have a really really old Sprint phone, a Samsung N-200. The N-200 phone used to have the same number as the current A-460, so if I use the phone for the time being, will I have to pay an activation fee for it? Ideally, I would like to buy a new phone for this account without signing up for an advantage agreement or paying an activation fee. Is that possible? Thanks. Sorry to bore you with my dilemma. Jason
You can purchase a phone from another source other then Sprint. Just make sure the ESN is "clean" (not stolen). As for the activation/upgrade fee it depend on the situation & the rep who is helping you. I have never paid for an activation/upgrade fee, while other are not so lucky. And with the insurance, I would call Lockline and ask if they have any more a460. I would doubt they would because the phone is so old. More then likely you will get a different comparable model.
No kidding! I still rank the A460 as the worst phone I have ever used!! The fact that someone is still using one is an absolute testament to his patience IMO!
I actually see many people still using this phone. I my opinion, this very phone is a big reason of the "sprint has terrible service" myth. People hang on to it because it is a very small and good looking phone.
I thought this phone was ugly when compared to the A500 (which was around the same time period). The key pad totally sucked on it.
I didn't think the phone was ugly, but I would say it looked worse than either the A400 or A500. I liked the crazy blue display, but the thing had the worst reception ever IMO.
I didn't either, nice styling and small. I am just glad that I was hanging around here & over at HoFo to find out the phone was so horrible. Because just moving over from Verizon, I was freaking out about how bad the service was. Until I returned the phone the next day for a Sanyo 4900. And I think I just touched on another myth.
Dont get me started on that phone. My mom is going on i think year 4 with the 4900. That phone is a brick... it gets reception eveywhere (even more so NOW due to the fact that Verizon has 1900 running in NYC since its a 1900 only/analog phone) The battery also lasts her a week!
how do I found out what software version I have? I don't think I've ever updated the PRLs ever since I've gotten the phone. Could that be the problem? Jason
This is what comes up in the "Version" screen (maybe you can help me decipher it): Version SPR D8TM:10026 S:ES.A460 WI19 H:A460.05 Jason
PRL Software Version Hardware Version And no the PRL is not the problem, more then likely it is just the age of the phone. Or as a few have montioned the phone it self.
