1. Dawn from the balcony of our Lodge. 2. Within the National Park 3. Mountain Stream runs almost the toatal length of the Parkway. 4. One of many waterfalls
Those are beautiful, Charlyee!! I could definitely enjoy my morning pot of coffee with that balcony view.
Were you able to check out Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge? Other good places I like in the mountains are the Cherokee Casino, Dollywood, Newfound Gap & Mount Mitchell near Asheville. Along the Blue Ridge Parkway into NC is very pretty, I want to take it up from Asheville to Boone (passing Linn Cove Viaduct) & Grandfather Mountain. Hope to someday check out the Biltmore Estate (largest private home in the US). I live a little more than an hour from the Blue Ridge Parkway at Asheville.
Charlyee, those pictures are very beautiful — I wish I could see all that myself. Can I get a copy of your itinerary?
Thanks very much Larry, RR, hme, Mike, Joe, dmapr, Erik, & Der84. . It was a beautiful and enjoyable trip. We stayed about 12 miles from Gatlinburg & were able to see & enjoy it some. Pigeon Forge & Dollywood we just drove through. we took the Parkway inside the National Park & drove to Cades Cove, Newfound Gap, Cherokee. Then we took the Blue Ridge Parkway to loop around Cherokee. I have very fond memories of a different section of The Blue Ridge Parkway from when I was a startup field engineer at Eden, NC. We came from Asheville on I40 west, or atleast we were supposed to. About 10 or so miles out of Asheville I40 had just closed due to a rock slide earlier that morning. There were no detours defined, and we managed to find our way to Hwy 321 through some gorgeous scenery on winding roads. We read about the Biltmore Estate after we came, so we missed it. We have plans to go back in Spring when the Azeleas & the Rhododendrons are in bloom, I hope you won't mind if I pick your brain a bit before that trip Your are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the country, we are really looking forward to going back there soon. Ha Ha yup I really like it here too, and as long as you don't mind driving a bit more, its well worth it for the scenery and the friendly people. It's a lot more spread out than what I grew up with in Central NJ. I'm still adapting even after being here 4 years, I think it's that I like to travel too and take many pix. My immediate region, the Piedmont of Upstate SC, has really good views and sunsets with the mountains in the distance. Theres so much beautiful scenery in the Appalachians / Smoky Mountains, I hope everyone could check it out someday. Charlyee, I hope you get to enjoy the area again soon!
