On a recent vacation at the Grand Canyon, where Verizon relies on extended service through other carriers, my LG VX4400 would not access the service. Verizon service suggested that I have the phone reprogrammed, which I did on returning home. However, they will not assure me that it will fix the problem. Is this a known problem with this model? Any ideas how to test the phone in advance without leaving my home area?

First of all, Welcome to Wireless Advisor.

How do you know Verizon relies on Extended Service at the Grand Canyon?

So your phone showed "NO SERVICE" while there or wouldn't make a call while in "EXTENDED NETWORK"?

    Thanks for the welcome, Andy!

I had no cellphone service and called Verizon on a land line. They informed me that verizon provides extended service in that area through a different carrier. In fact, the guy sitting in front of me on a tour bus was using his Verizon phone while mine was dead.

I am reticent to tell anyone to do the PSEUDO, cure all, *228 option 2.
BUT, in this case it MAY be the answer. IF Verizon has a new deal with another carrier (etc) updating the Roam List ( PRL) MAY actually help.

How is the phone working in general in other areas?

The phone is fine otherwise. I'll try your interesting suggestion if I'm ever in a similar situation.

I would just remember to call *228 each month and you should be good. If in fact this would solve your problems.
