I will eventually get one down the road. Since I just upgraded a month ago, I am far from eligible for the subsidized price and no way in hell am I going to pay full price for one. I voted maybe, as an option for "eventually" wasn't available. As I have an iPod and use iTunes regularly, I would like an iPhone to complement the others. The only other reason is there are quite a few iPhone apps not available on Android (yet). Though in a few years this may be a moot issue. I prefer iOS over Android, though the margin of preference is very small. I am VERY happy with Android and feel it is an excellent parallel to iOS. IMO, iOS is just more intuitive and simpler than Android. I'm just glad the iPhone is now an option on Verizon. I've been with VZ far too long to switch to any other carrier, so now I really don't have to.
I'm on Verizon, way past my contract end date with credits available towards a new phone. I voted No Way because wouldn't it be really, really boring if everybody had the same phone. And then each time Apple came out with a new phone, we all dutifully sent them our money so we could all have the same new one. :loony:
I would have to disagree about the current iPhone being the same as the previous ones. Though the screen size and general make-up of the device is similar among all iterations, having had the first one and seeing the iP4 in person, they are not the same phone. Apple's design works, even if most people on this site feel differently. iP4 is considerably better in form and function versus the previous ones (minus the antenna flap). It is by no means perfect, but it is by no means junk. I like Apple products, but don't love them to the point of fanaticism. I've noticed a lot of iPhone crapping going on since the announcement this morning. Obviously Apple's doing something right if they get this much attention, positive or negative... Apple phones aren't for everybody anymore than Verizon isn't for everybody. We go with what we like and what works. I love my Droid X and would choose it over iP4, though at some point I would like to have an iPhone again. To each 'is own, I say. I'm glad Verizon has the best choice of phones, IMO, now that they have the iPhone. Lots of great choices.
I always give credit where is due. I had the first iPhone and was not happy with it for a variety of reasons. My nephew has the iPhone4, and I will admit, it has excellant build quality, and it's a nice device, and far different in respects to the 1st version. My Nephew loves his iPhone, but not the service that goes with it, and that's where my problem is. While I agree the wireless industry continues to change for the better, it seems to me that the carriers feel the need to cave in to the demands of the consumer. And also needs to have the latest and greatest to keep up with each other. Unfortunately the networks cannot support the influx of all these data hungry devices, and the phone fails as what it is intended for... a phone.
I'm open to suggestions. Something in Android, size small or medium. Currently available or soon-to-be-released. I didn't mean that the iPhone models were the same as previous versions. I meant it would be boring if everybody had the same phone (an iPhone) the same way it would be boring if everybody drove a silver or white Honda Accord. With the masses either having or craving an iPhone, sometimes it seems to be heading that way. No desparaging commentary is meant towards the quality of the iPhone (or the Accord ) .
I would highly recommend the Droid X, or if you want a smaller screen, the Incredible. You could wait for one of these new LTE phones, but it's likely there will be a premium placed on accessing the LTE network. So unless you pay more (like the extra $10 charge Sprint wants for the EVO to access WiMAX), you'd be stuck with an LTE-capable phone only capable of accessing 3G. Why bother when the the Droid X and Incredible are outstanding phones and cheaper prices (get through AmazonWireless, as you'll save a fortune). I wouldn't recommend the LG Androids, and I could NEVER recommend a Samsung, no matter how nice Galaxy S-variant phones are. Ah, got it. I got the first part, but misunderstood what you were saying at the end... :O I would say the iPhone is like the RAZR, they're EVERYWHERE!!!
As you know we would enjoy giving you suggestions, how about starting a new thread and we could all give you our input. Maybe even a poll if you have some already in mind. It would help others looking for a new device as well. I said no way because I have eleven more months before I can get a discounted phone. I bought my HTC Incredible outright so I plan on milking this as long as I can. I am tired of contracts (at least for the moment). Also, I'd rather have get a 4G iPhone over the current phone. I may as well keep my Droid if I have a 3G Apple phone.
Yes, that is what I was getting at! Also, the iPhone, like the RAZR sort of frees some people from having to think about choosing which phone to get. I'll do that.......look for it in the Android Phones Forum.
I voted "no way" - there's a few other words I would add to it, if I'd created the poll. Not that I'd want to be reprimanded for it, though!
A survey result from recent analysts taken with current Verizon users. Of course it is only a survey (poll) as is the above WA one, but from a larger data pool. The next quarter will be interesting. This survey implies that most new users will come from within Verizon. Most other surveys agree with that general trend. According to R.W. Baird analyst William Power, surveys of current wireless customers reveal that substantial numbers of both current feature phone and smartphone users say that they are "probably" or "definitely" going to purchase a Verizon iPhone soon after the device's launch. - 29 percent of current Verizon feature phone owners said they will "probably" or "definitely" upgrade to the Verizon iPhone in the next three months. The carrier has roughly 64 million postpaid feature phone users, so that's 19 million potential iPhone upgrades, assuming eligibility. - 25 percent of Verizon's current smartphone users said they will "probably" or "definitely" switch to the iPhone. That's 4.8 million additional potential iPhone sales, again assuming eligibility. Grand total: 23.8 million potential Verizon iPhone sales–from the carrier's installed base alone. Add to that the 5.6 percent of current AT&T iPhone users who told Baird they planned to switch to Verizon and that number rises to nearly 25 million. Source
Yeah...uh, that's not happening. Somehow, I doubt that 29% of the feature phone base or a quarter of the entire smartphone base is due for an upgrade within the next 3 months.
I think for the year 2011 most will come from within Verizon. Pretty darn sure. oh, just saw your modified post Yankee. As the analyst says "assuming eligibility." Which is true of any ATT switch overs. But forget the numbers of 29%...that is just potential. The trend is likely to follow suit however, and this will be at the expense of RIM and Android variants. Windows 7 too.
Ok, I did not see the assuming eligibility. That is kind of a loaded question. I guess that percentage is somewhat reasonable, as it still leaves over 70% of users on other OS's, probably mostly Android (unless RIM makes a magical recovery)
Since the survey was taken before anyone would know what kind of rule Verizon might or might not set up for upgrades to the iPhone, it is the only way the question can be posed. Currently only 24% of Smartphones users are under the Android OS (all not just limited to Verizon); RIM being about the same, and iOS at 26%. So it will not be 70% for Android, not a chance. Most likely Apple will eat away from RIM, is my guess, and less so for Android.
