    JACKSON, Miss.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 12, 2006--Alltel Wireless
    (NYSE: AT), America's largest network, has extended its Axcess
    Broadband service to Mississippi, establishing continuous coverage
    along the Gulf Coast from east of Bay of Bay St. Louis, Miss., through
    Alabama to Apalachicola, Fla. This next generation EVDO (evolution
    data optimized) technology provides customers with unlimited wireless
    access to the Internet at speeds comparable to wired broadband
    connections such as cable modem or DSL.
    The Mississippi Gulf Coast communities of Biloxi, Gulf Port and
    Pascagoula are now covered by Axcess Broadband. The service also is
    available in Jackson and numerous other communities, including
    Corinth, Tupelo, Columbus, Starkville, Vicksburg, Philadelphia,
    Meridian and Hattiesburg.
    Axcess Broadband makes it easy to surf the Internet, access e-mail
    and calendars and download large, graphic-rich files while on the go.
    Using the service, customers can access advanced business, news and
    entertainment applications from their laptops, smartphones or handsets
    at average speeds of 400 to 700 Kbps with maximum speeds of up to 2.4
    Mbps.

    Alltel is expanding its high-speed network across the country,
    giving it one of the largest EVDO footprints of any carrier. Axcess
    Broadband service is available in metropolitan areas such as
    Charlotte, Tampa and Cleveland; in smaller cities such as Little Rock, Ark., Wilmington, N.C., and Savannah, Ga., and in towns such as
    Jonesboro, Ark., Dothan, Ala., and Durango, Colo.
    Axcess Broadband is available for $59.99 a month for unlimited use
    with qualifying voice plans. In addition to supporting a wide range of
    productivity enhancing business applications, it enables Alltel's
    Axcess TV, with more than 25 channels, and XM radio, with 20 of the
    best satellite radio music channels. To experience the high-speed
    network, customers will need an EVDO-capable handset, such as the
    silver or fire red MOTORAZR V3m, or a laptop PC data card, such as the
    Kyocera Passport 1xEVDO PC Card.

    I guess that EVDO will be turned on in Tallahassee shortly ;) I don't think that they'll turn on EVDO on in Apalachicola (a RURAL commuity), which is a mere 70 miles or so away from the capital. Cingy just announced their high speed availability last week (but the Maps dont reflect that yet). So that leaves Alltel and TMo with no hi speed access for cell phones in my area since VZW and Sprint has had evdo here for at least a year.

    There is EVDO here in Kansas. I'm sure they might just do it.
