Hey guys... is there a way to see what band (1900 vs 850) that the handset is transmitting on at a particular time? I've gotten the engineering mode to work on my V3, but don't really know what all the info viewers mean. Of the ones I've activated I haven't seen anything that hints at showing what freq I'm on. Anyone know about this? Al
Do you have a GSM or CDMA V3? I don't know about CDMA, but on GSM phones you will see a 4 digit number followed by -xx db. The 4 digit number is the ARFCN# (channel number) and the negative number is your signal strength for that channel. I'm not quite sure exactly where the cutoff point is, but its around 0250 I think. Under that you are on the 850 band, over that you are on the 1900 band. The signal strength is in negative decibels so the closer to 0 it is, the stronger your signal is. Usually a good number to see there is anything under -95 db. Over -100 db could result in choppy audio or a dropped call. Hope this helps you out, and if you have more questions feel free to ask. -Jay
How do you get into the service/engineering mode on a GSM V3? And more importantly, how do you get out of service mode? ;-)
If you don't have your phone hacked to show in the hidden munus you need to do the following: MENU 073887* Enter Security Code: (Your security code should be 6 zeroes if its still at factory default.) Select Test Mode Select Enabled Now you can toggle in/out of testmode by hitting menu then left soft quickly. If left "enabled" the phone will also enter testmode when turned on. Just hit menu then left soft to return to home screen. To disable go through the menu process again and select "disabled" -Jay
Thanks, but it didn't work in the slightest. The phone is a GSM V3, Back in Black edition. ;-) What little hacking that has been done is bumping up the speaker and blue tooth volume as well as adding some skins.
Oh, that explains everything. You didn't say it was black before... The truth is if that doesn't work then you need to do some more hacking... -Jay
