I had this problem for the first day and a half that I had the phone. As soon as I brought it to my favorite Verizon store (not my local one...) to have someone look at it, the problem went away and hasn't come back.
I suppose this means that the only advice I have is to actually try again later and see what happens. If it's working properly, the phone will download the content of the message on its own.

At the highest volume setting the ringtones sound distorted like the speaker is reverberating... Have you heard this?
I'm afraid if it isn't loud I won't hear it...

I haven't had this problem...I'm using several of the eringers.com tones and keep my phone at the highest volume as well...the tones sound fine...

I have noticed that some tones come out louder/softer than the "Preview" before downloading...when that happens, I tend to trash that tone as if I'm not going to hear it, then forget it! ;)

    Jodi.....Something's wrong.
    my a670
All the ringtones sound distorted at 5. I thought maybe it's just the ringers from eringers..so i went ahead and said whatever and payed for the 4 ringtones i had on my nokia through get it now...and they sound just as bad a level 5.
I'm so mad. Do I have a defective speaker or something???? It sounds like sh*t! I'm wondering if I should take it in to the verizon store...have them hear it or fix it.
volume 4 is not as bad...but then it isn't as loud. I like this phone and I want it to work...so I'm very frustrated and open to any suggestions :)

    Thanks all!
Maybe a software update will fix this???

I would take it into a VZW store and let them hear it. Especially since you've downloaded GIN tones (the "real" way of doing it  ) as well as eringers.com and you're getting the same results either way.

I don't have any problems at level "5" and the tones sound fine...just as an FYI...

Let us know what VZW has to say!

Okay I took it in. They said it's terrible. They credited me the 7.50 I spent on the ringtones ..they are okay if at like volume 3 but then you can't hear them. Said the phone wasn't known for it's audio. and that the GIN tones sound good when you are previewing them but once downloaded everything is distorted at high volumes
I either have to just live with it the way it is..but even with get it now tones the phone can't handle it.
They said I could pay 80 dollars and they would give me the LG vx7000 phone which has a lot louder ringtones and can handle downloaded ones better. The only thing is that I have to get my Mom to go in with me since she actually was the one who bought the phone in the firstplace. They said they would let me switch even after the rebates have already been sent in. I have until Saturday to decide if I want to spend a little more for a phone with loud ringtones and able to handle the tones.
So now I'm trying to decide if I should get the "louder" phone for the mere 80 dollars more or be stuck with a basic ringtone that i know I can't hear in the car and stuff. (I've already missed 2 calls already).

So now what to do????? Any takers on this one????

I would demand a replacement phone...my ringers on level 5 sound fine. If the CSR agrees that the ringer volume is messed up, then they should do something about it...I hear the "Sex and the City" ringtone on my phone multiple times a day (from eringers.com)...no reverberation...very clear...speak with a supervisor if you need to to see what they can do about it...

Also, you mom can call VZW (*611) and tell them to authorize you as a user on the account if problems arise. My husband and I have done this...his name is on the account, but I'm the one who usually makes the calls/concerns/complaints ;) By his authorization, I can not make changes as needed...

    Good luck!

I just got a call on level 4 and it wasn't too bad. I could hear it fine...but of course the phone was within 1 foot of me.
It's strange that they sound okay at 4...but maybe the tones of the particular ones I picked...??? can't handle it at 5??? The tones that came on the phone

I'm waiting to talk to my mom...that's another story --she can't receive calls on her phone yet due to porting problems....so my step dad is going to have her call when he gets home.
I think I will have her put me on as a authorized user because I usually need ot handle stuff for her anyway.

I'm wondering if we send a ringtone to my mom's phone if her's sounds as bad..then I would know...but of course we have to get the port process done first. she can only make calls...not receive them so I'm stuck.

Is it possible that I got a bad little part in the phone?? Everything else is working wonderfully.

    ????????

It's a piece of technology...of course it's possible!!!! That's why I'm recommending (once your mom gets you authorized) to take it back and ask for a new phone...the ringer shouldn't be reverberating...I can hear my phone quite well on level 5 from the other side of the house when it's fairly quiet!

I'm not sure if they will just give me another one. The ringers sound fine at level 5 that came with the phone. The downloaded ones are causing the problem. So at level 5 with the plain ringtones the phone is fine in their eyes.
So I either live with it or take advantage of getting the lg 7000

I'm going to have to go down to where my mom is at because her port still hasn't gone through..the other company is saying her number doesn't exist...which is a bunch of bs. I'll either take this one back and they will give me a new one or I might just spring for the LG...since it hold more videos and you can send them. I'm not sure what will happen except that it has to be done by Saturday.

Any reason not to get a LG?? Reason to keep the Samsung???? Anyone out there with some opinions?????

Im sorry but im so clueless on how you send ringtones to your phone. I used my yahoo email account. Myphonenumber@vzwpix.com and I automatically got an email back with invalid address. Can someone walk me through?

Just for the record, I am using a v710 and I DO have a vzwpix account set up...

I have tried uploading mp3's (with the mid extension) and normal mid files.

I have now tried 10 times with a few different compressions, but when I receive the files on my phone, all i get is a click, and then silence... :(
    The mp3's are compressed at:
    Layer-3, 44100 Hz, 40kbps, mono.
the midis are just an assortment of stuff off the web.

    Has anyone experienced this?

How do I get ringtones to work??? [IMG]

what size are the files. i couldnt get my ringtone working until it was close to 200kb (but still a little bigger)

also, Candy, make sure you include your area code for the email. and be patient using yahoo mail as it takes a while to send the message to your phone

None of the sizes were larget than 24k. I didn't want size to be a problem, so I thought I'd start small... But no workie...

    Candy...

Go to vzwpix.com. Don't use your yahoo account.
Go to create. This will create a message.
upload the ringtones to this message. For each ringtone, you'll see a musical note appear in the "body of the message."
In the "To" section. type in your cell phone number (no hyphens).
When you hit "send," the message will be sent to your phone.
When you retrieve the message, the message will only play 6 seconds of each tone, but the entire tone was sent.
While each tone is playing, go to the Left Soft Key (Options) and save tone.
    Do this for each tone.
Now go into your contacts/ringers/set up and set your tones as desired.

    HTH!

    OK, I'm an idiot...[IMG]

I had my ringer set to silent, so all the songs I received were there, but they were muted...

I switched from silent to soft, and now all my mid and mp3's work fine...
