The Blackberry does not do auto time update. You need to do that mannualy. The only thing it would do is the DST.

Sure about that? Under date and time options you have 3 choices, Off, Blackberry or Network. I believe if you choose network it keeps itself syncrhonized with the network time much the same way you can set a computer to auto synch with an external source (atomic clock for example). So be interesting to see once the the DST rolls around, as long as the network updates it's time the blackberry should change accordingly. Guess I will find out when DST rolls around.

All I know is that when I travel across time zones I have to change the time zone setting on the 8700c, even though it is set for network time and the network time is showing as the right time for the time zone I am in.

Yeah, guess you are right, just did a little more searching on on BB forums regarding this. Does not make sense, as "smart" as BBs are you would think that would be an automatic? Heck older cells phones had that capability.

I guess BB decided to separate timezone setting, allowing more flexibility -- just as computers do. You can sync your time to an NTP server, but set the timezone separately.

Correct when you change the time zopne all it does is it sets it back or forward based on the zone but it will not change the time. Your test is to change the current tim, save and let it sit there for a while and then see if it updates. Make sure that you don't choose update tiime as this is there to make it easier

There was a good article in today's paper by me on how this new DST law is going to cause a lot of problems this year, and all computers are going to been updates for it, and the biggest problem is going to be for the airlines.

I think they should do away with it, but they don't seem to want to.

I agree, may be doing the year round DST might be the best thing. I dread that day as so many things have to be manualy changed.

My company has made available free software — BoxTone DST Expert for BlackBerry — as a service to the BlackBerry community. Helps BES admins monitor patch and update progress by BlackBerry user and BES.
    Download is at http://www.boxtone.com/dst_expert_blackberry/

T-mobile pushed out the DST patch to it's bb members on Wednesday night in the form of a text message with a link to download the patch. I did it too mine when I got the text message. Did require a re-start of the BB but not a bid deal. So should be all set now.

I totally forgot about you guys. They have some really nice BES add ons. Let's just say I know of them from one of my customers (Government Agency).
