I have been trying to use a ringtone site Phonezoo and I am having no luck! I even forwarded the ringtone to mynumber@vzwpix.com as a message and still nothing. This site has the greates ringtones, does anyone know of a way to use it? Thanks
I think that Verizon blocks Phonezoo's MMS in an effort to create revenue for Get It Now. I have tried in the past with the Samsung A930 and more recently with the Motorola Q with no luck. Have you had success with their wap site? http://wap.phonezoo.com I went there on the Q and had no problems.
When I had my A930, I tried to have them email the tone to no avail. I didnt enable mobile web, so I couldnt go there on my samsung. In order to get tones via wap, I picked out the tones I wanted to download. I think that picking either method will put the tones in there. The tones would show up in the locker. On the Q, i went to the wap site and downloaded the tones onto it. Just make sure you have mobile web enabled (by monthly fee or it being included in your plan).
I tried it today on a whim. I have the LG VX8300. I never received anything from PhoneZoo when I sent it directly to my phone, but when I sent it to mynumber@vzwpix.com, it showed up! 1-1/2 hours later, but it still came through with the ringtone and all!
verizon does everything in its power from allowing people to make their own ringtones/songs available to themselves. this includes getting songs from other websources. good luck, from everything ive seen, and reps and tech people i have spoke with, verizon has an issue with allowing people to "use music which people do not have digital rights too" including blocking bluetooth file transfer and media card side loading
I do agree with your sentiment regarding Verizon and their tones... it just forces us to be more resourceful. However, more phones are available with bluetooth file transfer. It looks like only their upper tier ( and some midlevel) phones that have this feature like the enV, Q, z6. If the phone is almost basic like the VX5400, W385, u410, FTP will likely not be on it. From what I have read and seen, Samsung phones seem to be the most locked down on Verizon. Also, no matter what phone or company you use, FTP is generally limited to nonprotected content. I am currently using the Q and I havent had any problem playing DRM free music... it's the music I bought on VCast thats the pain. Needless to say, I learned my lesson regarding DRM protected music: I will never ever pay for that garbage again nor will get it on my phone!!! What's media side loading?
Presumably, side-loading would be where a mobile user takes a flash card with the desired media [ringtones, wallpaper, video] and loads them onto the phone by accessing the card's memory rather than paying for the media through Verizon's "Get it Now".
Here's an update to my attempt yesterday. 4 hours after I tried PhoneZoo, I received a text message. It was the ringtone I sent directly to my phone from PhoneZoo (not using mynumber@verizon.net)!!!! How is this possible?!?!
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0; Google Wireless Transcoder) To send media to your phone, you need to use the vzw pix email address. This could be just my phone, but whenever I use a site like that, the content that comes back is not always the best. Pictures that I loaded up on a flash card and set as wallpapers looked much better. (Sharper, more refined.) Flash memory for phones, or any device for that matter, is more than reasonable.
^^^It's because when you send data files via e-mail like this VZW recodes things. Like for a ring tones it gets converted to qcp format which looses sound quality. You're much better off making you own ring tone with any type of free software online as an mp3 and then depending on the phone either move the mp3 to the phone via software, or Bt. Or on some of the newer phone take the mp3 you just made, rename it as qpc, and then transfer it to the phone via software&a cable, or BT.
Last year when I did this I didn't have a problem, but I guess Verizon is starting to "re-code" the files now in an attempt to lower the overall traffic going through their network and lightly push people to VZW Pix and Ringtones Deluxe. When I had my old VX5200 I used BitPim and a data cable to send everything - sounded fantastic. I used to get close to that quality using e-mail until about May. But then a lot of people were complaining about that.
yep, it was in April or May of 2007 when they changed things. About the same time the Maxx Ve was released. Only reason I know that is I own one and the Maxx Ve will not accept a ring tone in mp3 format it must be renamed as qcp for it to work.
That works seems to work fine on all VZW phones excluding any of the Moto phones, which is the only mfg I'll purchase.
Brand loyalty - nothing wrong with that. Stick with what brought you to the show. This Sammy that I got with Verizon is one of the better phones that I've had - the minus being the battery life that is more than a bit frustrating when I stop and think about it. But I've been able to customize it to my liking and I've got some killer ringtones [when they work]. Plus, I don't think any of the other models available now have the Vivid theme - something that I like much more than the "Rainbow" with the black bars on the top and bottom.
Yea kinda sort, I've just always liked Moto phone. I'd also rather support an American owned company then some one over seas these days, which is tough to do when it comes to electronics to say the least. I've always had really good luck with them to and they do seem to be able to take the abuse they get from me owning them. To further add I have an extended family member who works for them so I never have to pay/buy any accessories, and I like the idea of being able to flash them to another carriers firmware so they are unlocked and still fully functioning on VZW's network.Like my newest v9m is running the USCC firmware so it's unlocked and skin it to change up the look. that awful red bar UI they have/had just drives me nuts.
Based on my experience with the U540, I would get another Samsung over an LG - but I would invest in an extended battery as well. Verizon told me today that I need to be charging my phone's battery every 3-4 hours. I never had to do that with my LG.
That's ridiculous, that being the case you'd smoke that battery out in nowtime. The key to keeping a battery in good order is charging it the minimal amount possible. Heat is what kills rechargable batteries, and if you were to have to charge it every 3 - 4 hours the dam things is just getting over heated all the time. Sound to me like it's a bad battery. I've never own a Sammy myself but I have had one LG whihc like you said was never like that. On all my Moto's unless I'm on the thing no stop I don't have to charge it but every couple of days.
I agree. I think I just got a hold of a newbie in Customer Service or just simply a misinformed rep. I recently got a new battery from VZW because of the whole charging issue. I basically know the Sammy has a bad battery, which is why I go through the system settings disable EVDO, and change the location setting to E-911 only. [I have VZ Nav with the Premium Plan, so I have to change it back when I need Navigation] I also turn off Bluetooth and the display settings are to the point it goes dim in 7 seconds. Why does the battery die so quickly? This isn't the first '540 it's happened to. I want a working '540 versus getting another phone outright, but it's looking like this may be the case.
