We are former Alltel customers who were bought by Verizon. Our friends who live in a different part of the state were not bought by Verizon and are still Alltel. Do we need to add each other to our friends and family/ circle or do we still talk to each other without using our minutes?

I'm assuming we need to add each other and that is it is using minutes now I just want to make sure.

I would recommend adding them to your Circle, as they are no longer part of the same company to remain mobile to mobile.

What remains of Alltel is soon to be AT&T. Verizon's majority is mostly merged. Since you've been merged over, you are now a Verizon customer, not Alltel. Though you were once with the same company, this is no longer the case, even though the Alltel name remains.

That's what I figured. We mostly talk on the weekend so its not that big of a deal but its still nice to know. We didn't realize she hadn't been merged until yesterday.

Actually, Alltel's acquirer depends on the location of the divested caller. For instance, divested users in Alabama, the Dakotas, and California will be divested to AT&T. Divested users in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Idaho will go to ATN, for example. But the point here is they will not be M2M with Verizon users.

Thanks Quint for pointing this out. I forgot about the small percentage going to Atlantic Tele-Network.

But as you verified, whatever isn't Verizon is no longer mobile to mobile for remaining Alltel customers.

Not true. Until the divested customers stop getting bills that say Alltel on them they are still considered Mobile to Mobile and will not count against minutes under the plan allowance.

I should have been more clearer. I meant Verizon billing, not "Verizon" as a whole, as you are right.

It's once they've converted to Verizon's system, with Verizon billing that M2M with "Alltel" ends, correct?

    NO!!!!!
As long as the divested customers continue to get bills that say Alltel on them they will be considered M2M. VZW has been quite clear on that. They may reverse this in the future but there is no indication of that yet.
