A staff member in my office mentioned this to me today. Does it make sense? She and her new husband (of six months) each have their own cell phone plans. She is with Cingular Blue (though she claims to have Rollover, so I am not sure how that works) and her husband has Cingular Orange. Her number is based in Reading, PA, while her husbands' is based in Philadelphia. Since they each have individual plans, they felt they could reduce their bills with a family plan. Both want to keep their numbers. The rep she spoke to on the phone said that at this time, if they wanted to go to a family plan, it was not possible to keep their numbers, because of where the numbers were issued. The rep said that it may be possible in the future. Does that make sense? It does not seem like it's just Cingular pushing people off Blue. And they're willing to get an Orange family plan. Strange... I did not know the answer, but figured I'd post here. fb
I don't think Reading and Philly are in the same market. That's why. With Cingular you cannot have numbers on your plan that belong to another market. It screws up the billing system. I tried to add my uncle 2 months ago, he lives in Florida and I got the same thing. I was told either he had to have a Va number, or I had to change to a Fl number. -Jay
As Jay has mentioned, they can't have 2 different area codes on a family share plan (I have heard rummors they may do it in the future, but I wouldn't count on it till it happens) As for her having rollover, I haven't heard of any Blue customers getting rollover yet, but they did say near the beginning of the merger, that anyone that didn't convert over will have rollover by the beginning or end of 07. So she may be a test customer to see if it works properly or she is an Orange customer.
Jay had the key to the riddle... its the maket not the area code... the NYC market has a gazillion area codes... (212 347 862 etc) all of which can be on the same family plan
Exactly. My phone is area code 540. When I added a line for my Mom they initially gave her a 571 area code because of my billing address. 2 hours after we activated it I had her number switched to a 540. -Jay
yeah to be quite honest i think that you should talk to a rep in a store and talk it over and maybe what we have said here is correct but it never hurts to have a one-on-one real conversation with a person
