Has anybody heard any news yet on whether or not AT&T has started to integrate Dobson's towers into AT&T?
I have not heard anything new, and my phone still says CellularOne. I hope it is soon as they only have about three more months of nice weather before they can fry an egg on the panels.
I have heard of plans to slowly change NID to 410 in some areas but in other there is alittle overlaping towers than need to be consolidated before it can happen.
Slowly but wont affect you for awhile. You not in bad shape because you have no Native AT&T near you so your not affect as much as Cellular Freaks folks are. I bet if you Drove to Alpena you might get locked on the old Cingular license saver site by the mall. I dont know if they turn that off or not, but its 410 and your phone will prefere it over the tons of former Cell One towers in the area.
Ahh ic, ok next time I run down to Alpena I'll check it out, I like the new "Service status" feature on the Curve, my old 8700g didn't display that. So I can check when I'm roaming or on at&t's mobile network. Currently at my house it displays roaming under the status of voice connection.
So are you saying that in areas that have both AT&T and Dobson, they will probably get rid of one or the other? Three of those areas being Midland, Bay City, and Saginaw correct? Because they only have very minimal Dobson towers. But I would imagine in areas that are just plain Dobson that they would begin to convert to 410 right?
How do you know what tower your phone is working off of? I have a Razor v3xx is there somewhere on the phone that tells you that info? Thanks..
your RAZR will tell you the MNC...... 410 happens to be AT&T so all you can tell is what company owns the tower you are using
Normally, on most Motorolas you can go into the Network part of the menu and find the System Select part, but since you have the V3xx, that means you must have AT&T, so that also means you won't be able to access that because AT&T disables that feature on their phones. From my personal experiences, only unlocked phones allow you to see this list of networks and their network IDs.
and T-Mobile Motos let you see it.....or my V188 did anyway........lately the Nokias have had that locked down on Tmo
I believe some were. I tried to unlock a few of mine and always got error messages. A phone can be unlocked but an operator can still limit some functions, On Alot of Cell ONe phones minus the few Motos I have had have had the Network selection option removed.
I have been to Midland and didnt have a problem with coverage there but I was there real quick. I agree with Bay City and Saginaw, if you do the math it only makes sense.
i know that on Nokias you are supposed to be able to select and see the network but in 2006 around June I got the Nokia 6103 from T-Mobile and the option had been removed.........
Any one else have network issues tonight in Dobson areas? My device has been saying no service all night.
Nevermind, I think my SIM is messed up. I sent another email to CS, they better get back to me on this.
Hello there fellow Thumb resident. Just to clarify, an unlocked phone does not enable network selection. That feature is disabled on ATT phones I know, but Motorolas can be seem edited to reenable this function, as I have done on my V400. There are a couple other phones out there that will override the SIM and allow this function. An unlocked phone will simply allow another carrier's SIM card to be used in the phone that is branded by a certain carrier. For example, my V400 is also unlocked and a T-Mobile customer could insert their SIM card into it and use it. I know that in the past both T-Mo and Cell 1 phones had the network selection feature enabled, but may have taken this away to prevent excessive roaming. This is normally controlled by OTA to program the SIM to control this feature. Nokias used to be very easy to unlock, but have gotten harder recently. Motorolas require a subsidy code to be entered and this can be done from a few accredited places that can generate the code. I am not familiar with most other brands of phones and the method to unlocking them. I know Evan at iunlock.com is a good place to start.
Ahh. So are you from the Thumb too? And has anybody heard any more news on whether they're going to be doing anything to the Dobson towers? Because I've checked out my family's phones and they're all still saying 310-680 instead of AT&T's 410. Also, I wonder if anybody knows about plans to do the "Project Fine EDGE" or whatever in the Dobson areas as well soon.
Yeah I live in the greater metropolis of Tuscola. Last time I checked, 310-680 was still being broadcast. I called the store in Caro once, but the lady was clueless as to when the towers would be converted. I will benefit greatly when they are converted. Where I am at, the 310-680 signal is stronger, but the phone defaults to the weaker 310-410, so I am constantly fighting with it trying to lose the 310-410 (1-2 bars) so it picks up the 310-680 (3-5 bars). BTW, I work next to a fellow Caroner (or whatever the correct term is).
Exclusive: iPhone Data to be Boosted by AT&T's Operation "Fine Edge" according to this they are supposed to be finishing that around June 15th........
Tuscola. So, the little hamlet by Vassar and Frankenmuth. I do know what you're talking about with the tower problems. So many people are complaining about that. When you go towards Reese, there is a Dobson tower but an AT&T phone will bypass it and head right for the tower on the other side of Reese and only get 1-2 bars until you finally reach it. They really need to get on a ball and convert these towers around here to AT&T towers because I don't think they realize what's going on. Also, they need to upgrade their towers to Fine EDGE speeds too so people can start getting the iPhone. One last criticism I have is that there's not enough towers here in the Thumb. Especially around Caro. Sure downtown Caro and the direct vicinity is okay, but once you head towards Watrousville or Deford or any place else that gets away from their towers, the service really stinks.
i think you need to be a little understanding of the amount of work that it takes to do something like that. im not sure what line of work you are in, but not everything in life is on demand. sorry if im a bit brash, but i feel that you are a little unsympathetic to the whole transition including the men that are on the front lines trying to get it done, who may be members on this site or potential browsers. im sure that it will get done as soon as they possibly can, and there will be growing pains, but there has to be a level of exceptance from the people as well. Just FYI.
On the plus side work does seem to be going on. I went from Boston to Albany last week and the annoying 4 or 5 mile gap that used to exist between the two NY tolls is now almost gone. I did drop my call, but I was able to redial right away & stay connected.
