    Hi:

I recently got my face plate changed by a Verizon technician and I watched as he did it. He started at the top of the plate on the sides and slid his finger nail in between the almost invisible groove on each side and it slowly poped up. There are hooks all around to connect the face plate to the phone and it is seriously erroneous information to tell people to start at the bottom where that little slit is because the hooks are there too and if you start there you could damage or break your face plate.

Anyhow, I noticed that when he opened it there was no way you could get to the screen and clean it short of taking the whole phone completely apart. I too have some smutz on my screen right under the batter meter but I think it was there before he opened the case and I just dismissed it or overlooked it cause its so small. My only fear is that it doesn't get any bigger cause it could be within the pixels itself. If yours looks like dirt it's dirt but if its square and kind of changes as you turn the phone around it could be damaged pixels.

The best thig I could tell you is to take it into a Verizon store, or whoever your service provider is and show them and see if they can clean it or give you a new model. Don't attempt to take it apart and clean it yourself.

Hope it works out for you.
