I'm on a roll tonight Still playing with this picture hosting thing. So here's some more pics (so I can figure this out...) Now that I got my Griffe, here's my every day stuff: Surefire 6P, Emerson Lagriffe, Kabar Dozier Hunter, Comtech Stinger Not a Strider, but sharp as hell (Buck). Here's what you get when you break in my house: (oh yeah...that green stuff, Yello, is grass) Here's a pic of me with some Mad-Max type device in the local blade shop. No, that is not a gut, it's just a baggy sweatshirt!
Re: A thought on concealed carry: I don't get hassled for my karambits. So long as my knife isn't a dagger and is under 4", it's cool to carry. LA where Michelle is is another story...
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 I'd love to see the look on the guy's face when he realizes he just lost half of the muscle on his arm in a fraction of a second.
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 1-that's a gut 2-we've got grass here too 3-glad you like your La Griffe. Cord wrapping it is very helpful in getting a purchase on it. If you want directions, call me AFTER THE SEMESTER IS OVER
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 you 2 are almost at 100 posts already :smokin: I dont think I can do that :notworthy :cheers2:
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 I believe we are back to being the biggest thread in the Roaming Zone.
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 My @ss it is! I'd go on a hunger strike before I ever let myself get a beer-belly. It may not be rock-hard, but it don't hang out!! PROOF
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 Gotta get away from this computer.... Well I'm off to get the new toy sharpened...Not quite sure what the little paper in the box claiming it was "Razor sharp" was all about...must be a joke I guess. Good Luck on your tests Yello! BTW...did you ever "get" the implied meaning behind my USN avatar in relation to yours? I may have thought it funny, but then I can be easy to amuse at times. :loony:
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 I think I recognize the painting as well. It's Gabriel, right? Edit: yup, it's Gabriel tossing Lucifer out of Heaven. Very funny
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 Wrong. St. Michael the Archangel. Top dog commander of heavens army. Gabriel is more of a messenger. In the pecking order, Michael was the number 2 angel behind Lucifer, before Lucifer got tossed. Actually , in the painting, Lucifer has already been tossed out of heaven...he's about to be tossed into the lake of fire. It's a gross misconception that people believe that the Devil in in hell right now as a ruling dictator. He's never been there, and won't go there till after the tribulation period. The bible clearly states that he is on earth during this time period. Close enough, just got your archangels mixed up. There are only 4. Actually, I didn't noticed the irony until later. I didn't pick it just because of yours. It's still creepy you ended up with "that" number. Probably would have never guessed I would know this stuff, huh? I like Michael because he is the patron saint of police and military, and he carries a big sword. And, as the picture pointed out, he gets the honor of being appointed to put the boot up Satans @ss.
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 Visited the local store today...happy to hear he's on USN now...just lurking at the moment. Tried out and bought a Tek-Lok for my Griffe. It's like it was made for it. You can set it several different ways. Looking forward to trying the PTD loop as well. While I was there I saw that "Tracker" knife so many people are hot for. I have no idea why (other than it was in the dumb movie). The thing weighs like 10 lbs...it's basically a thick slab of steel with an edge and a handle. Probably took them 15 minutes to make. Also saw something that was a neat little gadget. Probably wont buy it, but a gadget nonetheless..SEE HERE Would be ok if you wanted to carry something not exclusivly weapon based..
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 The tracker is a piece of carp. You're better off taking that money and getting a low end Strider, which is a hell of a lot better than that thing. The knife and flashlight combo would've been a good idea except while using a knife, it's up close to something trying to cut it, and then the light is useless. I'd rather have my Surefire hanging from my mouth and then cutting by hand
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 The name Michelle is the female genderization of the name Michael. Which means I am alpha female of heaven's military... patron saint of police...carry a big sword.... and am swift and vicious as far as the ___ whup to satan goes, as well. I just do it all without smearing my lipstick. M1
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 My name means tall and sexy in Cantonese... ...and big muscles too...
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 Impressive. I'm sure when Armageddon gets here, Michelle will get all the Holy angels to lay down their swords and train them on a PS Karambit. THAT would be cool.
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 I have a 16" Ontario Knives Machete I'd rather carry in the woods that that thing. You have no idea how retarded it is (The Tracker) till you hold it in your hand. That Karambit in that pic is the one he has with the Tarani Sig on it. Been sitting there since the 2004 SHOT show.
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 I am also growing fonder of that Tarani Buck/Strider, the more I play with it. I would MUCh rather have an SnG, but $400 is WAY out of my range for a knife right now. I wonder...had anyone ever replaced the grips with G-10 on a Buck/Strider?? Something to consider.
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 I've never heard of anyone trying that before. I believe M1 has some experience with the SBT, but I myself have never laid hands on it.
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 Great knife. Got one at my house right now actually... still in the box... sending it out to a friend of mine who's head of the SWAT team in Colorado... its his birthday present. Lemme ask about the G-10 issue... I'll be out at the Buck shop tomorrow morning actually. m1
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 Like I said, It grows on you. I hated it at first. Yet, I kept getting it out of the case each time I went to the store. It certainly ain't as cool looking as a real-deal Strider, but it is also about the toughest Buck folder I have ever seen. And it feels real good in the hand in reverse grip. Great design. Honestly...I think it is about as close as I am going to get to a Strider folder. They ARE bad ___ knives, REALLY bad ___ knives....but then so are Emersons, and they aren't $400. So I think the next one I will probably step up to a little over $100 on it. Question is, will it be the Buck Strider, or one of the many Emersons I like (if I can find them at a good price) I'd love to get the combat karambit...but I'm not gonna mess with that till I can actually learn how to use it the right way. I can't really think of any real cons to the Commander...and the Cons to the Buck/Strider aren't that bad. Though I DO seem to remember thinking the liner lock was a little on the "thin" side. And the Commander has the Wave... Maybe I should look at it this way: Strider design/ MADE BY BUCK Emerson Design/ MADE BY EMERSON G-D@MN THIS OBSESSION!! This is all your fault Yello!!
Q&A I know this thread gets more hits than any other by the view count alone. Since I am at a loss for current stuff to talk about at the moment (no more $$ to buy toys right now), I was wondering if anyone had something they wanted to discuss along the lines of this thread. Knives? Gadgets? Self Defense? What kind of stuff does everyone else out there carry for self defense type situations? Anything? What do you keep by your nightstand? In your car? What does your significant other carry? Too bad Rallykid isn't around much, he would be able to bring some firearm flavor to the thread. I would very much like to get a more round-table discussion going. Suggestions?
Re: Q&A I usually keep at least one knife by my bedstand, as well as a Surefire There's usually a couple knives lying around the bedroom, as well as around the house in spots where I could duck and pick something up
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 I don't have the SBT, but I can tell you that I love my Commander. It's a great knife and the handle feels great in your hand. And it's slashing ability is AWESOME
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 Not quite accross the biceps... like you (doug) pointed out in a follow-up conversation, it more or less flips and takes out the tricep and part of the bicep... then you continue the movement up to the armpit area and take out the bracheal artery. Doug would better be able to give you the bleed out time on the bracheal artery than I, but i know its fairly quick... almost as quick as a femoral bleed out. m1
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 It depends on which arm it is. If it's the left arm, it's going to be a lot faster. They're about the same, the brachial is closer to the heart, but the femoral has a wider diameter, except for that left brachial
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 I would imagine it would be fast, as both of you would be pumped full of adrenaline. Might even look like when The Bride took off Sophie Fatale's arm in Kill Bill vol. 1. Well, maybe not. Since you guy brough up the physiological side of knife fighting, let me ask this. I am interested in finding a website/page/diagram of all the pressure points/nerve centers/etc which are commonly taught as your 'body targets' in various martial arts. The places where it really hurts to get hit, or causes some sort of involuntary body response. Are you following? I think it would be great reference material, especially if we could post up these diagrams. Kinda like this one: This one I got (I forget exactly where) from a koppo/impact tool page.
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 is this all the places you can stab a person?? :smokin: :boxingsmi :help: :nopity:
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 Actually that diagram (see bottom of pic) is a "target guide" for impact tool strikes. Kubatons, Koppo sticks, "pocket stick" flashlights like Surefires and Inovas, Comtech Stingers (my personal fave), etc. I would think a "knife target" map would be extremely different, I assume centered more around the circulatory system and muscle groups. On the subject of the Comtech Stinger: I'm sure you have seen my pics of these before. Don't believe I ever wrote any kind of review on them. These are the "everyman" tool...what I would recommend to someone with little to no experience. If you were going to carry one thing on you every day to help defend yourself, and you didn't want to spend a lot of money, or carry something you felt uncomfortable having...then it is my opinion that the Stinger is for you. Right now I have two of them: These are items that would pertain to the above chart. They are small, they are light, they fit on your keychain, and they make you capable of breaking bones with your punch!! If you think I over-exaggerte that last statement, buy one and have your girlfriend punch you in the ribs. Just don't blame me afterward. My EDC one I use as my keychain. I only carry two keys on it: My car and house key. Less keys to get it the way. i also replaced the keyring with some big ball chain (ie: dog tag chain) that I have at a perfect length so that the keys just protrude from the bottom of my fist. I feel this give a better grip/better stbility in the hand, not to mention more comfortable. I sometimes have a clear one in another pocket. It is hard to spot in your hand. I cannot stress how much these stupid, little things hurt. The reason I would endorse them is because just about anyone can use one. Being a force multiplier, they will make your punches way more powerful than what you normally could, with less chance of injury to your hand. I highly recommend this article, as it give an excellent review, better than what I could write: Stinger article from Donrearic.com And if you decided to try one out for yourself, get it right from the source. You'll get the best prices and the best shipping prices for them: COMTECH One word of advice: If you DO decide to get one, get one of the CLEAR colors. Why? The clear ones are made from a different material than the solids. They are actually slightly larger, and the material grips much better in your hand. I would really like to see someone else try one out and post a non-biased review. They are definately one of the most KISS-simple devices out there. Would even be easier to use than one of our faves: Surefire flashlights. (Though that would easily be my second pick!!) If anyone tries it out, let me know what you think!
Re: Delta and Yello's Bad @ss Thread Ver 2.0 How is it going Delta, Why worry about all this knife stuff, now that we have a concealed carry law on the books? :rasp: I've been considering a Glock 26 or one of the small Sig .380s when I get the cash. Are you going to get your card?
